Welcome Kaz. I've hunted here in the Midwest US for 40+ yrs. In the old days, I'd say you were right. Grab a gun, and a license,(maybe) and head out to hunt without thinking much about it. Now, here in my state, all youngsters born Jan.1, 1980 or after have to pass a fairly rigid safety course befor...

I don't think it will effect the limbs at all...at least...it never has on my Exocet. One thing you have to watch for is the string stretching which will lower your brace height. This is worse on a new string than on one that has been used. I leave my bow strung all season...Oct 1 until Jan 18. Usua...

That is quite amazing, and thanks for that link. I want to see someone put a camera on a big stinky buck in full rut. I bet we would be amazed if we could peek into the life of a buck with one of those cameras for a day or two.

I have a big problem calling Vang a hunter. In my book he is a poacher and trespasser. Having said that, it's too bad his actions have have shone a bad light on all the Hmongs. Actually, the Hmongs and the people on this forum have something in common. The Hmong were (are?) makers of crossbows, whic...

A friend lives near Chicago and does the same thing in the Cook County Forest Preserves. He recalled one episode when he was in a tree rattling and grunting. A big buck came in and paced around his tree. Then, an even bigger buck came in and ran the first one off. This second one was violent due to ...

I agree it could be tossed out. I don't see how the judge issued a warrant for probable cause from a picture. The gun in the picture could have been a toy. (That a real handgun might have been found later is beside the point) I have a pic of me when I was 3 or 4 yrs old with my uncle. He gave me his...

I saw it walking in from bowhunting yesterday evening. I'm in E.Cent.IL so it came pretty far south. I didn't see any green like in the above pic, but ours was pink and massive, covering a large arc in the northern skies. It was like a curtain on a stage, and moved in waves from right to left and ba...

I have one home made ladder stand and I love it. I set up, then leave it for fairly long periods. I have moved it only once since Oct. 1.
I hunt on private ground, and have never locked any of my stands and have never had one taken. I live so far in the sticks, even the bad guys can't find me. 8)

In Illinois, you get 2 bucks total, no matter what hunting method you use. For bow, you can harvest as many does as you are willing to buy permits for. A resident bow permit is $26, and that gives you one deer tag for either sex, plus one anterless tag. Between CWD fears and the pressure on legislat...

Lots of "cougar" sightings here over the last dozen years. A large male with no head was found along RR tracks in SW Illinois along the Mississippi River a few years ago. That said, I will also say I am a skeptic on most of the "sightings". When I ask the folks that supposedly sa...

Sometimes an injury to the deers body will cause problems with the antlers. Interestingly, an injury to the left side of the deer can cause a retarded antler on the right side. A deer that grows a strange antler because of an injury will grow it that way year after year. By the way, deer have antler...

I was out this evening, even though it was 68F when I walked over to the woods and way too warm to hunt. 2 does came out into the corn stalks just before dark and were browsing around 75 yds out. Right at dark, a buck I've been seeing came out from near the same place as the does. He saw the does, b...
