Re: 2 Hospitalized Fighting Over Dead Deer
In Illinois, you can't track a wounded deer onto private property without permission. If the landowner wants to keep the deer, he can...game warden or not. As said above, the landowner would be required to process it and most won't...unless it has a big rack...then all bets are off. Gary

His rack has the "crab claws" on the tips. Those make nice looking mounts. Gary

Re: A Long Drawn Out Day
Wow! The deer and the story are both great. Is your last name BOONE...as in Daniel Boone? 8) If you said you're related I'd probably believe you. I'm too crippled up to pull off what you did. I would have had to have gotten help. You did it alone...you're a bad dude! Congrats on a memorable deer. Gary

new2, I've been wanting to start a thread like this. Great idea, especially with the Google Earth aerial view. I'll get pics of my spot up soon. Gary

Re: Gift Exchange
So, are you wanting to start a Christmas gift exchange? We draw names and everyone sends a gift and receives a gift. Have done it on other forums and it's pretty much fun. Or, was that just ramblings from our poet-laureate? Gary

My guess too. The dead branch leaning against the tree doesn't seem natural. GaryMarkMarine wrote:BTW, do you have the camera hidden in the bole of that tree on the left?

Re: Wireless GPS tracking thoughts
I dunno. How good would the thing work? You spend $200 for a GPS you have to build from parts to track a $200 camera. If the gizmo doesn't work you're out $400! Things like this I call "rich hero stuff". Gary

Re: Latest "Thief" Update
Many years ago, there was a temple in Japan that had a small dome covered in gold leaf. Someone started stealing the gold leaf from the dome. The monks tried to come up with a way to catch the guy. They ended up gathering poison ivy and cooked it down to to get the oil that causes irritation...it's ...

You've got a neat place to roam. I need to start picking up driftwood. The lake by my house has tons of it everywhere. Gary

Re: Human Scent
I hunted one morning and walked across a large pasture. It has a high barbed wire fence but there is a place with a broken wire where the critters go under. I crawled under at that spot and hunted. Came home the same way. Next morning, I was in a stand near the pasture and I could see the crossing s...

Re: A nice find...
Save a tree is right. I have lots of pine trees planted in my yard for a wind break and the deer would like to rip them to pieces. My job for today is to put up the electric fence around the trees. I've done it for 5 or 6 years now and haven't had any damage since. Fewer bucks in the last few years ...

Around here, you need to put your camera under a white oak tree to get any pics. That's what they are eating now. Gary

I like my father-in-laws backhoe method. You dig a hole 16' deep, put the (recently deceased) perp in the hole, and fill it in with broken concrete and garbage. End of story. Gary

Re: Question? Elevation or No.
I like both. Early in the season I like to get in a tree. Nothing like an aerial view of the autumn woods when it first starts getting light. Putting my treestand up this weekend in the same old spot. Like JKrug said, when the cold wind starts blowing I'll be tucked in a brush blind on the ground, s...

I heard that the "scent killer soap" we use for deer hunting works good on a "skunked" dog. Luckily, I haven't had to try it...yet! Gary
