I researched and tested a Parker model called the Safari Classic. It has a laminated wood stock with a thumbhole pistol grip with a swell for right hand shooters. It is heavy because of that wood stock. It was quieter than average and had less viberation/shock than average. I think this was due to t...

Foreward mounted limb system

What is the difference in the foreward mounted limb system and the limb system as used on the 2004 models? Does the riser section still fit over the frame and connect with two bolts?

Question about the Vixen

I am still narrowing down the field. Is the frame of the Vixen or any Excalibur crossbow solid as in machined or forged or is it hollow. If it is hollow, does anyone know what the wall thickness happens to be. I know a lot of my questions sound unusual, but, I want the best I can get for the limited...

The bill passed Monday. Vote was 98 yes, 0 no, 0 abstentions, 1 absent. It is now in the hands of the department of game and inland fisheries as I understand. VDGIF will hold a series of public hearings in April. If they decide to allow allow crossbows, you will have to come up with an extra $18.00(...

The Virginia bill passed Monday. The vote was 98 yes, 0 no, 0 abstentions, 1 absent. If I understand this bill correctly, it gives the department of game and inland fisheries the authority to sell a crossbow license in addition to the archery licens for hunting with crossbow in any season where arch...

Don't be to hard on the Bowsite for thay know not what they do. I got a very nicely worded and polite invitation(PM from an anti crossbow for anyone/any reason) to take my business elsewhere because I was "persuading" and "influencing" too many people to go "soft" on cr...

ComfyBear I also think Excalibur is top notch. I have been looking to buy my first crossbow and have been researching them extensively. I have noticed that tiller problems seem to be one of the most common problems no matter the brand. On this forum I was able to find several references to tiller pr...

Tiller seems to be aproblem with all brands and styles of crossbows. I know one manufacturer now makes a bow with adjustable tiller. As well as measuring from where the limb goes into the riser to the string, check to see that the string is perfectly square across the frame. If it is square across t...

BUCKeYeHunter I doubt that the introduction of crossbows would significantly increase the total number of hunters. I think there would be some muzzleloader and many general firearms hunters migrate to the early archery season if they were allowed crossbows. I think the sale of compounds wou go down ...

Check the tiller measurements. There have been several threads where the tiller was off and this causes all kinds of accuracy problems. As stated above, check that the string is perfectly square to the frame.

There is a lot of concern that you cock the bow perfectly square. I wonder, if the tiller was off, could you cock the bow with the string off to one side to correct the tiller. That would be like adjusting the nock point on a recurve bow.

Having more or less twists on one side of the center serving would have no effect on the tiller. Twisting would only make the overall length of the string less. It would not/could not change the tiller. It could/would slightly move the center cerving right/left if one side were twisted more than the...

Brayhaven I checked with the square and it is not square. That seems to be the problem as the bolts fishtail in flight. I suggested the owner send it back to Excalibur as I don't feel confident to work on it myself. I have my own private bow shop in my basement and lots of folk bring their bows to m...

Crossbow tune and setup questions

Since no two limbs are perfectly matched, how do you fine tune a crossbow? On a standard compound or recurve, you can adjust the tiller and, more importantly, adjust the nock position for perfect arrow flight. Since you can't do this on a crossbow, how do you compensate for the limbs especially as t...
