My first hunt was with a selfbow in 1954. The game was those big old Kentucky feral hogs that were thick as field mice in those days. I hunted through the 2005 season to January of 2006. I believe that makes 51 years so 1480 + 51 = 1531

I won't go into accuracy and how smoothe it shoots since that is well documented. However, this tidbit of information might interest you. I have a 28 inch draw length with a compound bow. My last compound, a 70 pound draw model, was IBO rated at 315 fps. That is with nothing at all on the bow and a ...

Ray I have a 2005 model Vixen, 150 pound. It is advertised at 285 fps with a 350 grain arrow. I shoot a 460 grain arrow, have cat whiskers on the string, and limb savers on the limbs. My average velocity is 260 fps. I have shot compounds from 50 to 74 pounds and recurves from 45 to 70 pounds. The co...

Ray I used to do some benchrest shooting and long range varmit hunting. I also did a lot of handgun competition. I manufactured all of my ammo to the strictest benchrest/competition standards. With your crossbow, lets say you have 5 2219 shafts cut to 20 inches. You have, lets say, Easton inserts in...

My Vixen has literally hundreds of these (fishures?) Ever compound I ever owned had them. My boy has a high dollar recurve with black glass and it has maybe thousands. Evidently they are fairly norman and are not problematic.

Crossbows in virginia

Virginia just finished the 2005-2006 hunting season, the first season with full use of crossbows for everyone. I just saw the preliminary results and, sure nuff, just like the anti-crossbow folk had perdicted, the deer kill and the number of hunters were both down  Amazing how they can be so ...

Wade I think there are a lot of uninformed assumptions made because of the potential accuracy of a crossbow at extreme ranges and the retained energy at long ranges. What they don't consider is getting the arrow "there" and the lag/flight time of the arrow. That rainbow trajectory comes in...

A 20 inch, 2219 shaft, aluminum inserts in each end, 5 inch feathers, and a 100 gain point/head would weigh about 440 grains. You could use epoxy, but, I feel hot melt glue would be much better as you can make adjustments if/when needed. I personally prefer the 2219 shaft. You could also use a 2213,...

I have had experience with only 2 Barnett crossbows, but I would definately take the Vixen :D I am wondering where you got the approximate speed and energy figures for the Vixen. I have a 2005 Vixen. The arrow I finally settled on weighs 460 grains. It comes out of the bow at 260 fps with 69 ft lbs ...
