Wes E. I have the full size limbsavers, on the side of the limb toward you, 5 inches down the string. I have the small limbsavers, designed for trad vertical bows, on both sides of the limbs as close to the limb bolts as possible. I have the full size limbsavers as low on the rail as they will go di...

I hunted with a recurve from 1954 until an accident in 1989 took the recurve away. When I went to a compound in 1990, I bought all the equipment of a pro shop from Apple Archery. I set up bows for kids and I also set up crossbows for folk with permits. Every crossbow I set up, I also shot. I discove...

I shoot a 20 inch, XX-75, 2219 shaft, inserts in each end, 4 3/4 inch AAE vanes, and Muzzy 100 grain head. Total arow weight is 460 grains. Before I cut the shafts, I use a converted cartridge case trimmer and square the open end. I then use a case neck turner, converted, and square the back sholder...

As said above, it is a matter of personal opinion. The only way I would use carbons is if there were no aluminums available, and that day may come soon. :( I get noticeably better accuracy with aluminum shafts and I have MUCH better broadhead alighnment with aluminum. :D I think this is because I ca...

I personally favor the Muzzy 4 blade 100 grain over the Wasp Boss(which is a great head) I think it is currently the best fixed blade broadhead available. My reason for saying this is that it is the only fixed blade broadhead that I have ever got to fly exactly with field points from recurve, compou...

I am another Vixen fan. I like the ability to cock it with a rope aid, it is extremely accurate( less than 2/12 inch at 35 yards with Muzzy 100 grain 4 blade) with a 28 inch draw it would take a 70 pound compound with an IBO speed of 315 fps to equal it power wise. I also like the looks of the Vixen...

Wayne I have gotten complete passthrough on feral hogs up to 450 pounds with a 45 pound Pearson recurve and Pearson Dead Head broadheads. The largest hog I ever took was in 1974. It was 592 pounds on a tobacco scale. it was a complete passthrough, into the ground. The bow was a 70 pound Sky recurve ...

Gary That rifle was one of two custom rifles I got from G. P. Hedrick. I took delivery of the 35 on June 18, 1981. I have an old reloading manual that has a place in the back for notes and records. I have some good records from the 35, a custom Hedrick 6MM magnum, a custom Silkiss 360 magnum handgun...

Shakky The 35 Whelen was one of my favorites from years ago. If you can still find them, the 250 grain Hornady spire Point is a great bullet. I always used Federal cases and primers as my first choice. According to my old logbook, a Federal case, Federal 210 primer, and the 250 grain Hornady Spire P...

There was such a device that was actually marketed a few years ago that attatched to a compound bow and let you shoot a bolt of about 8 or 9 inches with the blades as vanes. I can't remember the name of it this late at night, but, there was great debate and discussion about it on the bowsite forum. ...

I was very interested in the Parker before I bought My excalibur. The problems encountered were the rails out of alignment, kept coming loose, and the riser assembly kept coming loose from the stock. When the owner decided to really tighten it up with thread locker, it stripped out. I think Parker c...

I am shooting a 460 grain 2219 from my 2005 Vixen. I am getting 260 fps, 70 ft lbs of KE, and .534 SS of momentum. At 35 yards, through a chronograph, I am still getting 246 fps, 62 ft lbs. of KE and .505 SS of momentum. This energy and momentum has taken the largest elk, moose, caribou, and bears. ...

The accelleration curve of a crossbow can be so severe that the blades will open prematurely from this accelleration, literally from inertia.

I have heard many say that they double band their mechanicals, but, I know folk that use Rockets and Wasp Jak-Hammers with no problems at all.

I have a very slow Vixen, a very slow bow period. I have experimented with arrows from as light as 415 grains to as heavy as 460 grains. I settled on the 460 grain arrow. I have limb savers 8 inched down from the tip of each limb. I have limb savers on the back side of the limbs at the outer limb bo...
