Anyone hunting the "burbs" this year?

Just sitting here ready to go out again thinking about how my hunting has changed from last year. Last year I hunted Michaux State Forest here in SC PA. It is a 36K+ acre mountain paradise. Deer are there, but not in great numbers. I managed to get a nice buck last year with the Axiom. This year I h...

Re: Help me pick...Micro vs 380

Had a little help making a choice tonight. ..had a big 10 point come in to about 15 yds (too close). Tried to maneuver my axiom for a shot and clanked the limb on my stand...end of hunt. My 10 year old daughter was with me and said that if I had a Micro we would have killed it!

Help me pick...Micro vs 380

Ok guys....need some help. I will be selling my aluminum rail Axiom after the season and upgrading (if takers are out there let me know!). I am down to the Micro and 380. I mix up my hunting with some on the ground and some in the treestand. I like the feel and compactness of the Micro but also like...

Action packed first 35 minutes of the season

Last Monday got out for the first hunt of the season here in Southcentral PA. Been too busy to get my story posted but it sure was exciting... Hunted a spot near my house where I am the only person that had permission to hunt. It is an excellent deer funnel that connects several farm fields along a ...

matrix 380 and spitfires

After several years of admirable service I am selling my axiom (original aluminum rail model) for a matrix 380. I shot spitfire 100s in my axiom with exceptional performance. Have any of you shot spitfires with success from your 380s? Interested if the extra horsepower has an impact on the accuracy/...

First Buck Kill with the Axiom

This has been a busy fall for me outside of hunting. Work, my buddy's wedding, and a trip to Disney World limited my time in the woods. Finally my schedule opened up yesterday (11/8) and I headed to Michaux State Forest here in Southcentral PA. I have a great spot that is a long uphill hike to get t...

Ground Blind vs Ghillie Suit?

It's Christmas time and I was thinking about getting a hubstyle ground blind. I hunt on public land and leaving a ground blind in the woods is not an option. Thus, I would have to pack it in and out each hunt which limits my ability to "brush" it in. Do any of you hunt in areas where you m...

Score One for the Axiom!

Got tired sitting in a tree for yet another day waiting for bucks to show some interest in does here in southcentral PA....so I took to the ground. Got a good setup in a clearing in the middle of a very thick area and had a pair of does come in. First one keeps coming in, saw there was no buck in to...

Re: stringing first flemish string disaster need help

Hi Guys, Thanks so much for all the advice. I received a new string and installed it like a seasoned pro...pretty easy when you get the right instruction! I found the FFF to be faster and quieter than the standard string that was on my Axiom. Accuracy was phenomenal as well. You all are great! Thank...

stringing first flemish string disaster need help

I got a new Flemish string for my axiom (my first Flemish string). I installed it, shot a few shots and noticed the string was against my S5 system. After excellent guidance from everyone here, I was told to twist the string to adjust the brace height to get it off the pads. Tonight I tried to twist...

new flemish string and S5 system

I just put on a new Flemish string on my 2010 axiom that also has the S5 system. Fired a few shots and am keeping an eye on brace height. Right now the string is pushing real hard against the s5 pads. The string is within the brace height guides but would clearly be farther forward without the s5 pa...

First xbow deer down!!

Finally broke through with the crossbow and killed a doe here in Pennsylvania in my second year of crossbow hunting. Was hunting near Gettysburg, PA on Saturday morning. Got real windy so I put on a still hunt around some clear cuts. I see a lone deer running straight for me. It stops at about 25 ya...

Re: Anyone have problems with 100gr Spitfires?

I got things worked out last night. I believe it was the loose blade, tried a new head and things worked out real quick. The spitfires shot about 2" low and 1" to the left of my field tips. After I got them zeroed in they were very consistent. Had to move my target dot so I didn't tear a g...

Re: Anyone have problems with 100gr Spitfires?

Based on everyone's feedback, I checked the head I was shooting and the one blade was noticeably loose. I plan on shooting the other heads tonight to see how they fly. Hopefully that will work.

thanks for all the feedback.

Re: Anyone have problems with 100gr Spitfires?

Info I left out of first post...
Shooting firebolts with 4" vanes (came with the Axiom package). I've been getting good accuracy with 100 and 150 grain field points. Initially shot 150 grains and then switched to 100 grain after selecting the spitfires.
