Re: Looking for quality quick detach rings for Matrix

I've had very good luck with Warne QD rings.

Re: o\t ccw who does it an what do you carry

Scarecrow, I went recently to check out the XDM and saw the XD Mod 2. I really like the improved grip surfaces. Too bad they have that "Grip Zone" icon on the grip but from what I hear the pistol speaks for itself.

Which XDM do you have and what are your thoughts?

Re: o\t ccw who does it an what do you carry

My CPL has expired but am re-upping after the holidays. When I carried before it was a full size Springfield Armory TRP .45. Amazing pistol with the right ammo. My HK USP Tactical .45 is way too big for concealed and is an even better shooter. I'm using the new CPL as an excuse to get an SA XD Mod 2...

Re: Vane to nock distance

You are fine Carey, you will get minimal vane deflection with 7/8" offset. Not enough to affect accuracy as far as I can tell anyway.

Re: Vane to nock distance

A lumenok will give you a nice 7/8" offset with the Arizona Bolt fletcher, which is about the minimum you can go on an Excal without getting major vane deformation from the scope mount.

Re: My 7Pt Mount

So something I learned during this process...Euro and Skull mounts are considered different. Euro mounts cut the skull above the upper jaw line so you do not have the upper teeth. And they usually replace the skull with a synthetic skull like what Longbow Joe shows in his post. True Skull mounts cut...

Re: My 7Pt Mount

Thanks for all the comments guys, much appreciated!

Some good looking mounts people are posting. And I like that dual purpose plaque. Lots of options out there.

Re: My 7Pt Mount

Got to say it's much cheaper than a shoulder mount. $150 and he matched our dining room table color with the stain at no charge. I plan on doing most of the animals I take in Africa next year this way just for economical reasons. Not to mention they take up so much less wall space.

Re: bow arrows can be adapted crossbow?

How did you fletch them? I'm not familiar with QuickFletch but have fletched many an arrow. Check for interference between the vanes and the rail or the scope mount. For crossbow arrows most on this forum seem to use the Arizona EZ Bolt fletcher. It puts a great helical on the fletch and will stabil...

My 7Pt Mount

Picked this up from my taxidermist Monday night. I'm really pleased with how it turned out. If I changed anything, the next time I'll have him stand the skull off on a short pedestal and have the head at a slight nose up orientation. It's hard to see the overall height of the rack mounted flat. But ...

Re: bow arrows can be adapted crossbow?

Ok, the numbers you mention are spine designations which are measured at 28" (typically) and as such don't really relate to crossbow length arrows. Most that shoot aluminum seem to use 2219's. I believe it's more about the diameter and how the string interfaces with the arrow (string is centere...

Re: Bro In-Law Gets a M380

So the BIL finally mounted his new scope (he sold the OEM scope on ebay) and took some shots this wknd with Slick Trick XbowTricks. He's pretty torqued and couldn't believe how fast his new bow is. He was shooting a wheelie xbow prior and was maybe 300-ish fps (maybe) with the arrows he was using. S...

Re: Rail Tip.... to help save string serving wear.

That's a great idea too Paul! It probably still leaves a very thin lubed surface of lower friction coefficient without any residue at all. Seems easier to apply than the way I currently do it too. I'm surprised you had serving separation issues with the Scorpion Venom. I've had servings get chewed u...

Re: Fixed vs expandable

Now this is just my opinion...so take it with a grain of salt. :D Mechanicals...the answer to a question that never needed asking. Why add a Rube Goldberg contraption to the end of an arrow when there are so many solid fixed blade heads out there. Slick Tricks, Black Hornets, Centaur, Simmons, etc. ...
