Mike, I tried mine this spring and it had no visible effect on the black flies. They still chewed me up pretty good and some even landed on the Therma Cell while they were waiting in the buffet line. They're great for mosquitos, but I'd suggest you take along some protective clothing on your moose h...

I've never fallen out of a stand but last week I was building a platform stand by securing 2" x 4" boards to 3 pine trees. Because of the number of branches and the fact I was constantly going over and around them to get materials and tools, I wasn't wearing a safety harness, despite the f...

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a87/colliga/wildlife%202005/Aug.jpg Sorry for not posting this earlier but my system has been down as a result of the worm effecting Microsoft products. After seeing all the pictures that have been posted, it would be interesting to take a poll to see how many of us...

closest: bow = 15 yards, rifle 20 yards farthest: bow = 17 yards, rifle 80 yards. I took a moose at about 200 yards, but generally I hunt in thick bush and visibility is limited. Regarding long distance shooting, you can do a calculation using the initial fps of your bolt, the speed of sound at the ...

I'd just like to be in the position of actually having to decide. However, since my wife's a divorce lawyer and would make my life a living hell if we split, the decision would probably be pretty easy.

if the money goes back into wildlife management programs, I'm okay with paying for extra tags. If they were free some hunters might grab the maximum number "just in case". I think the way it is now most of us get an extra tag or two and buy more when/if we fill them.

I spray fox urine on my boots. I walk past my stand and double back so the scent trail doesn't go straight up the tree. My favorite scent cover if I'm hunting around areas where cattle have been is to walk in a fresh muffin or two on the way to my stand.

John, you said you got additional tags. I understood we were restricted to one additional tag at this time, and that we could apply for more from August 22 - 31.

LW, no one is feeding it, at least no one is admitting to it. We've all taken down our bird feeders and are keeping the garbage indoors. However, several neighbours have planted vegetable gardens and he's got plenty of wild berries to eat, so food isn't a problem. The MNR is reluctant to move him be...

recent visitor

A week or so after the bear showed up at my cottage, this youngster dropped in for a visit. Should be an interesting fall.
