Book: Congratulations on the doe! Your experience was very similar to mine. It is just too hot to hunt comfortably in Alabama right now. In answer to the question, a chigger is a tiny red insect that is active during warm weather. When they get on you, nothing happens for 24-30 hours. Then you devel...

Bare bones sight

When I bought my Exocet 3 years ago, out of ignorance, I bought the package that included a Maxzone scope. Stupid and ignorant, I hunted with it for almost 2 seasons until someone told me that it was illegal (and still is) to use a magnifying device on a bow in Alabama. This year, I investigated the...

JJK: I really enjoyed the terms for the various stages of the rut. Our problem in Central Alabama is that the rut does not begin usually until mid-January, which is almost a month after the winter solstice! Striper

mosquitoes-what do you do to protect yourself?

Last Saturday afternoon I had the worst problem with mosquitoes I have ever suffered through. I was wearing a Shannons Bug tamer jacket, and it protected me from 99% of the beasts. The other 1% almost drove me crazy. Have any of you come up with a better solution? Striper

Stump: this is a Weatherby rifle and round. You can get the ballistic data off the Weatherby website. The rifle belongs to a friend of mine, and was originally a wildcat round that Weatherby picked up after ported barrels and better recoil pads became popular. No kidding, it kicks less than my 7 Mag...

Guest; I would say that I see 20-25 does for each buck I see-, and many of the bucks I see are small spikes. I know that bucks after their first year are much more cautious than does and fawns. The Alabama Conservation Department indicates that the ratio of does/bucks is 5 to 7 to 1 in our state. St...

Carl: I have decided to take both. The ported 30-378, actually kicks less than my 7-Mag with 160 grain bullets. The 180 grain A-frame bullet hits 3 inches high at 100 yards, 5 inches high at 200 yards ( I grouped those shots) ,supposedly it is on at 300 and 7 inches low at 400 yards. Ballistically, ...
