Re: Vixenmaster/Smokepole Hall Seriously Injured

I don't jump on this forum much but I read it all of the time. I always enjoy Vixenmaster's posts. This fellow Missourian hopes to get the benefit of his wisdom again soon. Get well buddy!

Re: Last day Success

A jake is every bit as much a trophy as an adult gobbler. I've killed 25-30 turkeys, (a few of them were really big) and I have been equally happy with every one of them. A jake is a filled tag and some tasty nutritious meat, -- the culmination of a successful hunt. Congratulations!

Re: Camo material for ladder stand

I bought a 10' X 12' camo tarp @ Home Depot.com. I then bought a grommet kit and doubled the tarp over and put grommets in it every 15". Finally, I zip tied the grommets to my shooting rail. It conceals everything below it and it blocks the wind. My stand is a 360 degree tripod so you would pro...

Re: Tree stands or Ground a Blinds...

I use a 15' tripod stand with a padded seat that rotates 360 degrees and a shooting rail covering all 360 degrees. A camouflage tarp hangs from the shooting rail with an opening at the ladder that I secure with a snap connecter. It's hard to beat comfort and convenience.

Re: Scent free laundry detergent

I just use plain water for my camo clothing. The agitation gets all of the normal dirt out and I don't really care if blood stains remain. If you're worried about the clothing retaining scent (I doubt that it will) you could add a couple of table spoons of baking soda to the wash cycle.

I'm puzzled by your title. I found the good luck part of it, but where is the bad luck?

Congratulations!

Re: decocking

I did the same thing last year but I was in my garage and had already removed my boots in my haste to get inside to watch a baseball game. I drove a boltcutter between two of my toes cutting both toes and the front of my foot. I healed and have learned a lesson the hard way.

Re: Point restrictions

I live in metro St. Louis but I hunt on my farm in Pike county. My biggest problem is that it is really hard to see the brow tines on many 8 pt. bucks, so I have to pass a lot of nice deer up.

Point restrictions

I'm curious about people's opinions on prohibiting hunters from shooting bucks with less than 4 points on at least one side. Where I hunt in northern Missouri it is the law for both bow and firearm hunters. I'll state up front that I don't like the law. Early one morning last week a buck passed 30 y...

Re: slick tricks

Although this only my second crossbow deer, I have shot many deer with both a recurve bow and a rifle. I have never had one with a double lung shot run this far before, but 200 yards isn't astounding. She was running full speed immediately after I hit her and she could have traveled that distance in...

slick tricks

Early Saturday morning (six minutes after shooting hours began) I shot a 150 gr. slick trick crossbow trick through a large doe. It was pretty dark but I had a lumenock on my arrow and the hit looked good to me. I retrieved the glowing arrow which had some (but not much) blood on it, then I waited f...

Re: uncocking safety

Thanks to everyone. I was using one of the 20" firebolts that came with the crossbow and the broadhead was a boltcutter. There was plenty of room for my socked foot (size 11.5 W) to fit into the stirrup and under the broadhead. I'lll heal with no lasting harm and will avoid such an incident in ...

uncocking safety

Has anyone else jammed a broadhead into their foot when they uncock their crossbow using the rope cocker? I stupidly took my boots off and remembered that I hadn't unocoked my crossbow then uncocked it without removing the arrow with a boltcutter attached. The result was a nasty cut between my big t...
