A jake is every bit as much a trophy as an adult gobbler. I've killed 25-30 turkeys, (a few of them were really big) and I have been equally happy with every one of them. A jake is a filled tag and some tasty nutritious meat, -- the culmination of a successful hunt. Congratulations!

I use a 15' tripod stand with a padded seat that rotates 360 degrees and a shooting rail covering all 360 degrees. A camouflage tarp hangs from the shooting rail with an opening at the ladder that I secure with a snap connecter. It's hard to beat comfort and convenience.

I just use plain water for my camo clothing. The agitation gets all of the normal dirt out and I don't really care if blood stains remain. If you're worried about the clothing retaining scent (I doubt that it will) you could add a couple of table spoons of baking soda to the wash cycle.

I'm puzzled by your title. I found the good luck part of it, but where is the bad luck?

I did the same thing last year but I was in my garage and had already removed my boots in my haste to get inside to watch a baseball game. I drove a boltcutter between two of my toes cutting both toes and the front of my foot. I healed and have learned a lesson the hard way.

I live in metro St. Louis but I hunt on my farm in Pike county. My biggest problem is that it is really hard to see the brow tines on many 8 pt. bucks, so I have to pass a lot of nice deer up.
