I haven't seen the photos, obviously, but I would think it unlikely charges relating to the firearms would stand up.....IF they were legally possessed by the persons accused. If they were unregistered handguns, or were set up so as to point at the child, that could be an offence. However proving it ...

It sounds as though you may have been lucky to have shot her in the morning. Do you think you could have found her tracking at night?

Congratulations.

Why gum? Why not mouth wash? Dab a little deer urine on your boots, etc., and gargle too.

:D :D :D

I too am a skeptic of the charcoal clothes and cover scent club.

Shot placement will remain important, of course. A gut shot deer is just that. In my jurisdiction broadhead size to be legal must be no less than 7/8". The heavier Slick Tricks are 1 1/8". I think that is pretty standard amongst manufacturers where the broadhead weight is 100 to 125 grains...

Hi5 have you checked too see what the largest cutting broad head is in dia. :?: Not really. I'm only interested in the premium types, such as Slick Tricks. No doubt there are custom or semi custom broadheads that can be found. I just think it would be nice if the type that fly so well could be avai...

BUCKeYeHunter (I hope I remembered your handle correctly)! I agree Kinetic Energy increase is not the goal. I'm talking about increased wound channel size. We aren't going to be able to "blast 'em off their feet". I'm not even suggesting increasing broadhead size to the point an arrow pred...

Woody I realize in the absence of actual testing that I am speculating about what is "effective" when talking about "wound channel". However, with the excess penetration available using standard broadheads, wouldn't in theory at least, larger broadheads be preferable because they...

What I was getting at, Gary, is that maybe speed is not so important. It gives a slight improvement to trajectory, true, but wouldn't a slightly slower arrow and a larger wound channel be more effective as far as hunting is concerned? Wouldn't our bows be more effective hunting machines shooting hea...

ExoMax, and matching Broadheads to it

I'm wondering whether it would be better to down play increased speed, and instead shoot heavier arrows with wider cutting blades? Flatter trajectory is nice, but wouldn't the killing ability be significantly better with a bigger cut? I don't know what a reasonable maximum would be, maybe a 1/2"...

Hindsight is just that....I had a recent experience elk hunting where the blood trail disappeared when we tried to track at night. Fortunately with daybreak we were able to pick up the trail and find the elk, undamaged either by predators or decomposition. It's too bad you didn't have the same luck ...

2003 and 2004, what years. First we have the leadership campaigns, followed by the Canadian Federal election, now the US election. It's like two years of terminal dysentry.

Woody I have to admit that I don't have enough information either to criticize or endorse PaJack's actions. I don't know him as a hunter to be able to surmise what level of diligence he would apply. I was taking from his post that there was blood sign, but it was becoming less obvious., not that the...

A while back I posted a mildly chiding response to a chap who, as I recall, said he quit when the blood trail got spotty. I hope he reads your account, and I say this for two reasons. You are to be praised for your thoroughness and persistence. It also serves to help educate less experienced hunters...

OneShot Your post made me feel sad. I have a German Shepherd that's getting on in years. I have owned other dogs but never had a vet put one down for me. This time I might have to. I don't know if I could do it myself. As I get older I guess I get softer. I was raised on a farm and the Vet would def...

Jack It's too bad you lost your deer. I realize in your disappointment that you may well not have provided complete details. However, you seemed to be saying that you quit tracking at the point where the blood trail became spotty. That does sound as though you gave up prematurely. A bow hunter reall...
