VA Turkey
Haven't posted in a while although I still view daily. Here's my VA gobbler from this morning. Was a rainy morning and no birds gobbled on the roost, this guy came in silent and gobbled twice at 50 yards out to some soft purrs. Shot him at 25 yards, was a big bird at 22 lbs with a 11.75" beard....

Great buck and mount!!! The price was great too, although I would have easily forked out the money to mount had I killed it.

Re: Heavy Hitters
Hey Wes,
A couple really nice bucks there, glad to see the dog hunters didn't get them all. Good luck next year on them. I can always drop by on the way home from work and help you get some hands on those antlers.

Rage 2's shot great out of my Exocet, they should work just fine. Exact same POI as my field tips also.

Re: RACK REPORT - Deer of the dead
They need to put a fence around that graveyard......the deer are just "dying" to get in there.

Re: Groundpounder
RexKay,
I tried to PM you but I get a system error, sent you an e-mail instead. If you cannot get one from Groundpounder (try him first) I have a brand new groundpounder mount that is collecting dust. Let me know if you are interested.

Re: Strong Deer (Deer that get away after a solid hit)
I thought this was a perfect shot on this buck 2 years ago. It was shot with a Mathews Drenalin set at 70lbs and a 4 blade Muzzy. The buck jumped up 2 hours later and had to be recovered the next day. The shot was a double lunger, however it was slightly forward in the lungs but through both of them...

For Scott and Norm,
I do see a resemblance with the coveralls and the big pumpkinheads.

Son's deer pic's from Christmas
Sorry for the late post, but here is my son Richie when he was home on leave from Camp Leguene over Christmas. He missed the majority of the 2009 season due to being deployed to Afghanistan and will miss next year's season for the same reason. He made up for it while home on leave with these 2 of 4 ...

Re: homemade shooting rail for ladder stands
CF,
Conduit is cheap......probably less than $3 for 10 ft 3/4". The benders are size specific though, I have 3/4, 1" and 1 1/2" at work if needed.

Re: Back again few more questions
Keep your shots under 30 yards and that noise should be the last one the deer hears.

Welcome. You can't go wrong with your choice in Excal. Both are great choices, I bought a set of Excals for the wife and I and went with the Exocet for me and the Phoenix for her. The Exocet seemed like a perfect choice for me, plenty of speed but not a gut buster when cocking.

Re: homemade shooting rail for ladder stands
CF,
I have made several for my API climbers, I do the same as Peter P with a piece of electrical conduit. I have the wife make a cover for it with a piece of camo fabric. I can run the conduit and a conduit bender down to you one day if you don't have access to it.
