Re: Microed a MI Monster!

Tremendous bird! Some day maybe I'll have the nerve to hunt spring turkeys with my crossbow. It's tough enough with a shotgun! By the way, I love your slogan at the bottom of your post. I'm a meat hunter too and your bird will provide a lot of meat!

Re: Excalibur Micro takes its first turkey...

I have never brined anything but I am going to have to learn how. I see references to brining, and instructions on how to do it, around Thanksgiving every year. Everything I have read says it makes the best, most juicy turkey. I intend to give it a try. I know that nobody on this forum does this, bu...

Re: Got another this morning

Beautiful bird! I drove up I-75 through Georgia last week and saw a lot of turkeys and several strutting gobblers. Our season in MO doesn't start for three more weeks and seeing your post and those birds makes me even more anxious!

Re: Excalibur Micro takes its first turkey...

Killing a jake is just as good as killing an old gobbler in my humble opinion, especially with a crossbow. I've killed 25-30 turkeys and haven't passed on a jake yet. Once I had two jakes walking around in front of me and an older gobbler gobbling right behind me. I was happy to fill a tag with one ...

Re: Black Eagle arrows

Thanks to everyone for helping to change some of my ignorance into knowledge. I didn't know that Danny Miller handled BEAs, but now that I do, I'll call him.

Black Eagle arrows

There have been so many positive references to Black Eagle arrows on this forum that I am ready to give them a try. I went to their website and couldn't figure out what to order. I shoot an Axiom and don't know if I should buy Zombies or Executioners. Also, under the category of "fletched"...

Re: shooting rails

I appreciate everyone's feedback and I am certain that everyone's intentions are nothing but good. However, I do about 70% of my hunting from a 15" tripod stand with a 360 degree shooting rail and a 360 degree swivel seat. Rigging and using a harness on that stand seems illogical. When I hunt f...

shooting rails

Do any of you guys use deer stands with shooting rails? I like them for two reasons. First, they make holding the crosshairs still on my crossbow or rifle scope easy, allowing me to feel very confident on most shots. Second, they add a measure of safety when hunting from an elevated stand. They are ...

Re: Deer n Seein Them

I'm not complaining that our archery season is too short, I was merely pointing out that our season is shorter than Arkansas's. In Missouri crossbows are legal during the archery season only for people with a disability authorized by a doctor (I have a bad shoulder). We're working on changing that.

Re: Deer n Seein Them

I hunt in N.E. Missouri and our (statewide) deer population and harvest have been down for a couple of years, due mostly to an outbreak of disease induced by a drought a that occurred couple of years ago. Still, our 2014-2015 annual harvest was 260,552 deer, which is more than a previous poster repo...

Re: MO Crossbow Hunting Support

I went to the MDC site and expressed my support for making crossbows legal during archery season. I also mentioned my opposition to expanding the special youth firearms season. Currently the special youth season is in two segments, the first is the Saturday and Sunday two weeks before the general fi...

Re: Deer Shoulders ?

I shot a button buck a couple of weeks ago that was close to my stand and at a steep angle. The arrow entered in his spine and exited out of his shoulder. He dropped in his tracks but seemed to suffer way too much before I could get down and finish him off. It made the experience less satisfying tha...

Re: A problem with E Texas

Where I hunt in northern Missouri we have antler point restriction (4 pts. min on one side) and I hate them. Since they imposed them in 2008 I have only killed one buck. It is too hard to count points most of the time. There is also the risk of mistaking a spike buck for a doe with a rifle at longer...

Re: My Excal Matrix Blew Up!

Is there more emphasis on brace height with matrix bows than there is with older models? When I bought my axiom a little less than 3 years ago I watched the video and followed the instructions and I haven't had any problems, but I remember having a little trouble figuring what "brace height&quo...

Re: Boltcutter Broadheads

I have only crossbow hunted for two years, but I did use boltcutters the first year and killed a doe that dropped within sight. I switched to 150 gr. slick tricks last year because they have one more blade, and thus more cutting surface. I shot a doe with the slick tricks and she ran 150 yards befor...
