Re: Predator Hunting Questions

Thanks Piper, that's some good information to fall back on. I think for right now I'm going to go with what I have, a 30-30, which I use for deer hunting. As for right now, I'll be hunting the mountains and fields. As WE ALL do, I'll be watching my shooting direction and backstops for safety and no...

Re: Predator Hunting Questions

I guess I am the odd man out because I like the 7mm Remington for my coyote hunting. I live where you are just as likely to call in a Bear, Wolf, or Mountain Lion and shots can be very far. The big caliber gives me excellent accuracy to 800yrds and the 7mm will buck quite a bit of wind. I see posts...

Re: Predator Hunting Questions

Pydpiper, I was looking at the Ruger American 204. Can you tell me more about why you believe that's the best? Also, excuse my ignorance, but would the 204 be good for deer also? While it would be legal in the place I live, I would certainly not recommend it. Being a varmint round it fragments fast...

Re: Predator Hunting Questions

You wont find a better coyote round than the .204 Ruger. Fastest factory load made, only exceeded by the .220 Swift, and a margin of 5 FPS. Fast, flat, no ricochet and quieter than other calibers in it range. Second choice is the .17 Remington, it just has drift issues in the wind, but it too gets t...

Re: A Law suit might be in order

This post is useless! Indeed. Careful though, if you are not on this bandwagon you will be considered "Joe" and be scrutinized accordingly. This forum used to overflow with information, now, it has come to this drivel. The swap from an informative site to an entertaining one was abrupt. T...

Problem is, in Ontario it is illegal to use a dog to track unless...

Re: Bloodtrail Tracking

Luminol is the name of the product that crime scene investigators use to detect blood. It is sprayed onto surfaces where blood is suspected to be present--not that practical in blood tracking. That is unless you can hire a crop duster airplane to fog the entire forest with luminol. I was hoping the...

The bow is a non issue, either side of the border. The meat, I don't know.

I wouldn't be concerned. Peter has said the issues are minimal, tiny percentage of them have problems.

I don't usually get in to these "add ons", but this one seems to get decent reviews from you fellows, I just may try one.

Re: Hunting with ghillie suit

I have one of the "yarn" style suits, It is amazing to conceal shapes. But in the woods, it is like Velcro, it grabs EVERYTHING. Now, I bring it with me in a bag, then suit up when I find my spot. I enjoy the suit, but it is a pain in the butt! Going to hunt in it in a few minutes, kids wi...

When I did carry, it was a H. Schmit wheel gun my father gave me for my 16th birthday.

Re: Hunting waterfowl with crossbow

It is a no go for us over here, we can use a compound or recurve, but not a crossbow. Our last government was going to change that, but I don't see the new one doing much, of anything.
I bet it would be a lot of fun!

Re: O/T.... Leupold VX•R Riflescopes

I have a 6500 on my .204, and could not imagine a better scope. For varmint hunting the 2.5-16 zoom is terrific, 2.5 is great for in the bush, and 16 lets you reach out as well, side parallax to minimize movement, and Rain Guard, it actually works. Amazing in low light as well. I like the Vortex lin...

Re: O/T.... Leupold VX•R Riflescopes

Always wanted to own a Leopold, but every time I look through one all I see it the image in a brownish hue. Took a lot of years to figure out why, but it turns out I have a slight stigmatism that does not agree with the glass they use, or the angle it is cut on.
