Re: If you could only have ONE crossbow

Not going to speculate, as it ain't gonna ever happen. I have a simple philosophy: save the $ and pass it on to the kids when I'm gone so they can buy crossbows; OR buy crossbows now and pass them on to the kids. I'm thinking the latter wins.

Re: Doe down...question about hanging?

I skin mine asap, cut it the next day..after the meat 'sets up.' Hanging em is intended for the connective tissues to break down, has to be done under controlled conditions like 36 degrees. Wide temp variations just cause spoilage or freezing. Been doing it for yrs without issues, mostly with 'eatin...

Re: What to eat while in Tree Stand

I like granola bars, fruit bars, raisins, etc. I take them out of the wrappers beforehand and put a couple in a ziploc bag. I don't know if it's ever scared a deer off but those crinkly wrappers seem absurdly loud in the stand. Ditto. I also unwrap mini hi energy candy bars and some hard candy to k...

Re: Shooting Range

I use 5 rag-filled burlap bags, hung from tripods made from saplings. I cover them with a construction duty garbage bag and thus can leave em out rain or shine. Being on tripods (off the ground) they can be readily moved about to keep practice fresh. I have pics, send me a PM if you want to see it. ...

Re: Dental band on NAP Spitfire Broadhead ?

I bind my mechs with 1/4", medium, orto bands just to be sure. One of my favorite heads -Grim Reaper Whitetail Special- has one 'easy open' blade on each of the three heads I tested. Using the orthos give me piece of mind.

Re: Mechanical Heads

Well said Tom I like simple things (less moving parts) that is why I own Excal and shoot fixed blades. :D And presumably drive a Model T? Just sayin. I prefer to keep an open mind and am receptive to new ideas. Given the pace of archery development seems a better mousetrap seems to be around ...

Re: Mechanical Heads

Been using both Slick Tricks and Spitfires and have bows zerod for each. But I hunted a bow that was zerod for Grim Reaper Whitetail Specials when I shot this yrs buck. AWESOME. the 2" cut left a blood trail a blind man coulda followed...didn't have to tho, he fell within 40 yards.

Re: Lets talk about camouflage patterns.

Deer are colorblind, except for the color blue. So please yourself. I prefer the Mossy Oak patterns that blend into the surroundings I hunt. Don't know if it makes any difference to deer, just gives me more confidence in my setup. PS Yesterday I had a deer ogle me from 7 yards. I was in 14' ladder s...

Re: nocturnal nock help

The 'gear like' nock is an Omni nock introduced by Ten Point. It's perfectly safe to use with bows normally using flat nocks. Nock is intended to prevent dryfires by keeping arrow from slipping from string.

Re: Crossbow hunting death in NC

Too sad for words. Unfortunately, some folks who don't hunt that much -and some who are propelled by the 'gotta get a deer' mantra-get super anxious about a kill. Personally, it's the end of the hunt so I put it off as long as possible (passed on three sure kills nite before last) but I think I comp...

Re: What Is Your Arra Recipe?

I used to make em. Now get Black Eagle Executioners (from Wyvern Creations) for $39.00 half dozen. Best arrows I've ever used and at about my cost of making em, leaving more time for shooting, hunting and stringmaking. :D
