Serving wear

Got just 40 shots from my Vortex and new Flemish string before serving was sloppy and starting to wear. While reserving the string I noticed that the serving had been wound opposite of the direction of string twist. Apparently twisting the string caused the serving to loosen. I'm starting to ...

Big broadheads may not fly the best. Since stock crossbow bolt vanes/feathersb tend to have no offset, a big broadhead can actually spin the bolt or even cause it to plane off course. (It took two buck misses with Thunderheads to learn that.) I switched to the 1&1/8" Slick Tricks and the ac...

The Mpls area records some 40 hits per day, more during the rut and spring. At an average cost of $2,000 per hit that's a lot of $. Finally allowed archery hunts in some locations last year. Otherwise only sharpshooters with rifles or nothing. What a waste of hunting resoucres. Believe it or not the...

Best I've found (for field points) is the Morrell's #1 Archery Target. Stops bolts from Equinox with about 10" penetration and pull out with two fingers hold. Best of all $25, at the local WalMart. Big Block works for broadheads but costs about 4 x as much.

New Toy

Picked up my Vortex Wed. Super bow. Good trigger, accurate. Seems better balanced. Traded an Equinox back. Too much bow for my aging back and bum wings. Left me nursing a sore back if I cocked it more than half dozen times. It's surprising what a difference the 1" shorter draw and 25 lbs less d...

I bought the bow, base and quiver and got a better deal on the LumiZone on line. Have a look at the quick release quiver bracket that usually does not come with the bow. It has a base that bolts onto the stock but the bracket itself comes off with the quiver by loosing one hand-tighteded bolt. The s...

Mike The Excal has a longer pull compared to a compound requiring the arms to be in a bendt position just when the greatest effort is required to get it done. I found pulling a lot easier when I shortened the coker rope so I actually had to pull up on the string several inches to get the second hook...

My Encore PH does it's best with the 250 Barnes or Shockwave and 90 grains of LOOSE Triple Seven. If you weigh the pellets you'll probably find that they don't weight 50 exactly grains. Those I weighed ranged from 46 to 48 grains. Since uniformity of pressure is very critical to accuracy, weighing t...

Use a pencil eraser to clean up the terminals then change the battery. If that won't get it send it back. My neighbor bought one whose eyepiece FELL OFF.
Ecal replaced it in 4 days.

Love my slicks. Yes the blades are interchangeable, in fact you can pair the 1" with the 1 and 1/8t" of the same weight if you want to. (Dont know how accurate they are that way). Shoot great, exit hole much larger than 4 bladed diameter.
