Re: Doe down...question about hanging?

I've noticed zero difference in taste or tenderness after moving away from the hanging deer for a week or longer thing. Now I simply hang it up when I get home and butcher it whenever I have time, whether it's the next day or a few days later. Cooling it ASAP, removing tainted meat, trimming all the...

Anyone else stalking in the snow?

As usual, I've ignored deer hunting until the snow hit the ground so I can track and stalk some nicely pressured deer before tagging one with the Exomax. Luckily, the snow came early this winter and I have been out 4 times so far seeing tons of deer sign, especially buck activity, at 3 different pub...

Re: Doe harvest

Some folks get just as bent over the use of horn as opposed to antler, but that's a squabble best left for a different thread. Well, they are two totally different thing's... Antlers are a one part structure made up of bone and are shed. Horns on the other hand are a two part structure made up of b...

Re: Doe harvest

Just a question? Why do we as hunters call this a harvest? 35 years ago when I started hunting I never heard this term used this way.. We harvested crops like potatoes corn or beans, not deer. I am not bashing anyone, just wondering what changed...... BTW congrats on the nice deer... I'm not sure i...

Re: Controlled hunt 2014

Congrats!

The rut is on as it starts at the same time every year. I'm willing to bet my bottom dollar you guys were seeing less activity because the deer are in the corn and will be until it's harvested and/or hunter pressure tapers off.

Standing corn is a deer hunters worst enemy...

Re: smallgame head thoughts ???

Rubber blunts for squirrel, grouse, and rabbit with the Exomax. Judo points pass right through too often.

Re: Anyone else seeing Woodcock?

Well, I didn't get any footage of them on the GoPro. I did get a ton of video ripping through deep mud and water though

I'm going to try hunting them this fall.

Re: Small diameter strings?

Maybe if you twisted a bunch of fishing line, you could make a decent string. This is what I am talking about. Use the same method to make the string but with a stronger, smaller, and lighter material to make a string of fewer strands. I'm not really concerned about vibration or sound. I just want ...

Small diameter strings?

Just wondering who offers the smallest diameter and lightest string out there to squeak every last bit of speed out of the Exomax as possible. What is the minimum number of strands of material "X" that could be used and still be safe? What is the breaking strength of each individual strand...

Anyone else seeing Woodcock?

Just wondering if anyone else in Ontario has seen any woodcock cruising around this spring. In the past 10 years I have seen maybe a total of five, but on Saturday I saw four within a few hour period while on an ATV ride. I actually had to slow down to almost a stop or I would have smoked two that w...

Re: M380 blows up

Call me crazy, but it seems that I have heard about more quality issues in the last year or two than I have in the entire 10-11 years that I've owned an Excalibur. Limbs should be tested well beyond their intended draw weight to ensure poor quality limbs never leave the factory in the first place.....

Re: Off Season Project for my Hunting Room

Very nice job! Definitely adds some cool factor to the man cave. But, I would have turned it into a smoker. :D  Old fridges like that with porcelain coated steel interiors are perfect for smokers and are hard to come by these days... ch - I'm still on the hunt for the JD fridge. The IH was fre...
