I tie to the stirrup but place the bow flat on the ground. I tie of to my climber while I climb. I make the rope about 20' so I know when I hit the end of the rope I'm the required height.

I've heard of the bottom platform sliding it's way down the tree as you sit in the upper stand (thus the tether) but never a disconnect. You did everything else right and that's why there was no injury. Congrats!

Great story. Just proves "your never too old to feel young!" Gotta love that shot of adrenaline! It happens everytime to me (well not usually that bad) and I have missed two nice deer because I forget to adjust for the range.
