Good thread, I've been asking myself the same question. So, a few weeks ago I applied the pythagorean theorem to my treestand heights (15 -18 feet) and various shooting distances ranging from 10 - 40 yards and the results were negligible differences (0.9 yards - 1.1 yards) between the horizontal di...

What Enormous said. I have amazing hearing considering the punishment I've put it through. I love all forms of rock but on the way to the hunt I like Johnny Cash, Willie, or Stompin Tom. It brings me back and reminds me of other times and long ago hunts. My buddies won't drive to the hunt with me an...

In Ontario we can still bow hunt during the gun hunt but we have to wear full blaze orange hat and vest or jacket. No orange / camo. Call it a challenge! I'm heading out right now with the Phoenix to an area close to home that still has the gun hunt on. To add to the challenge, I can only take a buc...

More cold weather thoughts: Thermal long johns and shirts. I've used everything, Army thermals, wool, and high tech wicking stuff like Under Armour (UA). The UA is great but does nothing to keep you warm and insulated. You can wear thermals or wool over the UA and have the best of all worlds. I like...

This thread reminded me of a time about 10 years where my Dad and I were bow hunting in 64B. We often would hunt the weekends up at my camp in 58 then hunt at a spot in 64B on the way home. I was on the ground, with blind material all around me, in a row of trees backing onto an alphalfa field. Ther...

Liaf: how did you know that? I've been trying to think of how I could swing getting a Vortex past the wife! Cdup: that is not good news. It seems to be hereditary too. My son has his confirmation at church tomorrow afternoon but we've been thinking about how we can go from there straight to one of o...

Welcome Tom. Now if you have a choice between vehicles on hitting more deer, please chose the truck. Hitting them with the bike just is not fun! You got that right! Hitting that 12 or so point buck was like hitting a brick wall. I and the bike rotated over his back and landed over on his other side...

Thanks for the welcome folks! Welcome Tom. What part of Eastern Ontario? Maple Hi Maple; I live in Orleans. I've had a camp on a lake in WMU 58 for 13 years or so where we do most of our hunting and fishing. I also hunt in 64B for those closer to home day trip hunts. But hunters seem to have ruined ...

G'day folks! I've been on the forum for a few weeks and figured I should introduce myself. I'm 40. I've been shacked up with my wife for 20 years. We have a boy (11) that loves hunting and shooting and a daughter (9) that loves coming out with us too. I grew up an Army brat and spent most of my form...

Ottawa is infested with coyotes and the wolves are going right into Kanata. I've seen coyotes running the deer on the side of the 174. My main hunting area (WMU 58) is now infested with wolves that grew out of the park. Two of the guys in my group had wolves circling them as they dragged a big buck ...

That's a great area. If it's your first time hunting in December then you probably want to bring / get yourself some camo insulated pants (think ski-doo pants). You may want a better insulated coat than you'd use earlier in the season or make sure to bring extra layers. Colder weather boots would be...
