I was shooting a 145gr BH with GT lazer II's with inserts. I bought some Grizz Tricks but since they're only 100gr I bought some GT weights and added an additional 50grs to the rear of my brass insert. I found they flew extremely well out to 50 yards, though they do "wizz" in the air and i...

What I did after building some bolts, I chronoed them and got 318 fps. Then adjusted my dial for 300 to keep it simple and easy to remember, then used the windage and elevation turrets from there.

If no chrono, I'd just go to advertised speed with factory bolts and tweak from there with turrets.

I really like bear meat as well. My first experience wasn't pleasant, it was shot near a dump. Disgusting taste! Since then I've had a few steaks from bear shot in the middle of nowhere and baited with apples. They were terrific. I think I liked it better then deer as well, but it's close. Grizz, I ...

My uncle is a swat instructor for LEO's and he said they work for their intended purpose which is from a 30 story building to street level, but that angle is so severe and the distance so short a mistake can happen. For typical hunting, we'd never shoot that far or have that much angle to deal with.

I've never held one, but I've read good reviews on them so far out of different publications for what that's worth. The WSM series is not my first choice in cartridge selection, but that's personal, if your dad likes it, then get the same caliber. Personally, I'd keep the Tikka, get it glass bedded ...

I'm using a Magellan explorist 500 (discontinued) but is replaced by the Triton series. The new ones have better buttons, mine has a toggle which I'm afraid to break. Mine has a Magellan battery which sucks and costs about $60, but the triton series uses AA for 10 hours of use. The magellan screens ...

we boil down cedar and pine boughs and put it in spray bottles. We wash our clothes in wildlife research scentfree and u/v inhibitor soap, then fold with pine boughs.

We only use the spray come the hunt.

typically, our butcher debones and throws it in with the hamburger, but a friend of mine smokes them then wraps and freezes them. He gave me some to try, warm them up in the oven at 350F, elevated to let the grease drip and they were great, especially watching football with a couple of Coronas' He o...

nice deer! that must have been a great time getting him back through the swamp! He's pretty clean, how did you manage that? There are some huge scrapes where we were, in the fresh snow, but one of the guys in our group has no scent control at all. Smokes in his treestand, on the way to the stand, sl...

I like the 20 gauge, but if the 12 gauge is a must then youth model Rem 870. He can use allowance moneys for a rifled barrel as well. The 20 gauge with rifled barrel and sabots will kill deer stone dead no problem and no recoil issues either. Here those SG's are only $350.

That's all good to hear as well. The doe I shot on Friday afternoon was a heavy quartering to and figured she wiffed me and was going to move. I use a 338 Federal and it liquified everything from throat to vent hole, and the bullet kept going through a sappling as well. We used the garden hose and r...

thanks for the help and support. Is it possible other does "adopt" other fawns as well when it's time to gather for the deer yards? Is it common to see a doe with several fawns?

Thanks again,
Mike

done for the year! FAWN QUESTION

Well, came back from the rifle hunt on Manitoulin, the first 4 days were horrible, no deer moving at all, probably from the 8 inches of snow. Friday morning things looked better with tracks, and Friday night I shot a nice 160# doe. Saturday and Sunday sounded like Fallujah around us. We ended up wit...

I'd personally go with a low power variable like 1.5 to 4 x 32. It's small, and compact and lots of clarity. If you're hunting in the bush with low light, try the bushnell firefly. They work very well. Charge them with a flashlight before going in, and maybe half way through your sit just in case. E...
