Re: Lame year for harvests

Although I'm retired and have my own place to hunt, but I haven't been out much this year. The corn is still in our field and the woods has been so thick with vegetation visibility has been hard. I just got back from two weeks in Argentina and Brazil to find the woods more open but the corn still st...

That looks like Thanksgiving dinner! Is that an Eastern, Merriam's or Rio Grande? Beautiful bird whichever it is.

Re: Catfish heads

We used to only see eagles in the winter. The water above the locks and dams on the Mississippi would freeze and the turbines in the dams would stun fish coming out of the flowing water below the dams. (Mostly migratory) eagles would come down to feed on the stunned fish. Now we have eagles year rou...

That is an objectively beautiful buck! No exaggeration necessary on this deer. He really is a dandy!
Congratulations!

Re: I swore I wouldn't....

That's a great looking bow. We all understand the need to make unnecessary hunting and fishing purchases. I have seven shotguns and I'm about to buy an eighth. I could easily get by if I only had only one if it was a 12 ga. with choke tubes, but what fun would that be?

Re: Excalibur prolonged accuracy

I've found the same thing every year. I shoot my bow when the season nears and it's always right on. Another thing I've noticed is that at 20 yards, 100 and 125 gr. heads (on the same arrows) seem to shoot the same (both in the bullseye). There is just a little difference at 30 yards.

It doesn't seem like your hit was especially bad. You have the deer and she died quickly. It's all good!
Congratulations!

Re: Broadheads.

This subject reminds me of discussions I've seen on which rifle caliber is best for whitetails. The truth (as far as I'm concerned) is all (or nearly all) of them. Anything from a .243 (maybe a .223 or .222) up to a .300 mag.is close to equal. The key for all of them is making a good shot. The same ...

Re: Check this out

It's probably too bad that they were only using a .22 rim fire (which can be lethal but is more easily stopped by body armor). They are still young enough to contribute to the gene pool and we can do without their future contributions.
