Just got an APEX-the boys from Excalibur met up with Danny on their way to Atlanta and they met at my house located right next to I 75. It is light and it will be a bit harder to put a real front sight on it. It is a better bow for recreational target shooting though. The lack of a forward rail past...

They meet the requirement for deer in MD, at more than 70# draw weight. Can you shoot a regular 20" bolt. I like being able to shoot the same bolts from all of my xbows. What type of numbers could I expect from a 20" lazer II with brass inserts and 100-125 grain heads? about the same as a...

Although currently, crossbows are only allowed for deer hunting in my state , does anyone use a point blanc or apex for small game hunting? Goundhogs, squirells, fox, coyote, rabbits? It is legal to actually hunt deer with one in Ohio. It would be a fun bow for small game but I have never been so t...

Thanks Jim. Interesting and helpful. I use a Vixen with factory peep sights. How accurate can I get with these before it starts to become a losing battle?. The front blade is kind of big and even at twenty yards begins to covers the targets I use -- small circular pieces of cardboard, 4 inches in d...

But since it isn't happening yet.....how do you practice Jim? What's real important to stepping it up to the next level? the last 6 months I have only been shooting a recurve bow since I am trying to learn the BEST system developed by our new olympic coach Kisek Lee. When I was seriously practicing...

Hey Jim, I'm just thinking that if we had it all under one roof (category) those of us who were interested could find it easier and go back to old posts when needed. I'd certainly use it. I'm always looking to improve my accuracy and skill. that makes alot of sense to me. YO MODERATOR HINT HINT HIN...

Jim, This topic is not hunting related. I'm not saying I don't want to read it, I'm legitimately interested in it and I'm sure others are too. My problem is that I know squat about the target shooting and 3-D end of things. I'm wondering if we can't (and by we, I mean you and other knowledgeable ta...

IAU didn't have a limt but our national organization has adopted the world crossbow shooters association 21/64 (which meant the 22 series gold tips I used to use are no longer legal) No "line cutters" Why? Just for that reason? Most of the target crossbows use 17/64 shafting (the X7 1716-...

What is the power stroke on that one? What length bolt does it shoot? the power stroke is rather short-under 14" IIRC. the bolts can go down well below 20". TO get 65M (the max for IAU tournaments) we were using 2012 or 2112 X7. I believe the bolts they will sell for that bow are 2113 21/...

90 pounds is easy to cock-in 6 straight (I missed last year due to playing in a Squash tournament my late father had started and it was his last appearance) Ohio state tournaments I shot recurve in the morning and Crossbow in the afternoon and it wasn't tough cocking this bow about 70 times a day fo...

APEX TARGET BOW

I have spoken to Danny Miller and Bill T and hope to acquire this new target bow in the next couple weeks and do a review of it. Some of you may have seen my review and suggested modifications to the Point Blanc in Crossbow Connections and TNC's periodic newsletter three or so years ago. One of the ...

Jim you're quite right. Honeywell which makes the Spectra (Fastflight) supplies the US military with 80% of their production, and the other 20% goes to the fishing industry. Personally I use Brownell TS Plus (100% HMPE) dyneema string material which in my opinion is very similar to Spectra, but bet...

You all might try Dyneema rather than the now hard to get fast flite (Spectra) all domestic production of spectra was requisitioned for the military which is why BCY's end servings are dyneema now and why Brownell's TS-1 (Spectra) is now TS-1Plus (Dyneema) common Dyneema is 8125 or D-97 by BCY and B...

Just to add a bit to the excellent post above Fastflite is made of SPECTRA (HMPE) which I believe now is owned by the Honeywell Company-at one time Allied Signal owned it. Spectra is hard to get because almost all american production has been requisitioned for military (body armor) use and the rest ...
