I am wondering how people calculated the recovery distance? Looking back on the bolt cutter entries I made last year I
think my estimates were quite subjective. What techniques or tools do people use for this estimation? Should we recommend
a standard way of doing things?

Big D:
Your 3 "reasons" are three consequences of, not three causes of, using the heavier and presumably higher FOC arrows.

Re: What's The Adavantge.100gr. 125gr. 150gr. and even heavi
My last two deer were taken with the 150 grain boltcutters. I was using a phoenix shooting XX78 aluminum arrows with a speed of 250 ft per second. I switched after reading all the arrow lethality studies and updates by Dr. Ed. Ashby. Recently he has focussed on the advantages of high to extreme FOC....

Re: A better scope than the Varizone. Is it needed or wanted
I have used a varizone for five years without any problems. I also use it for plenty of target practice and some 3D shoots. Bill T. says he uses the varizone wherever he hunts all over the world. Recent reports seem to indicate that the quality of scope production has deteriorated recently. Is that ...

Re: Ontario Whitetail Deer Records
Here is another take on the weight issue by Daniel Schmidt, an editor of Deer & Deer Hunting magazine. There was a day not so long ago when deer hunters across North America were absolutely fascinated with big bucks. No, not big racks — big bucks. Huge, giant, monstrous creatures. Or, as the old...

Re: Ontario Whitetail Deer Records
Just for the record there is a report of a 512 pound whitetail deer killed in Minnesota in 1926. (somewhere I remember reading that it was actually found dead. (for a reference see Whitetails: Phantoms of the forest, Minnesota, Northwood press, 1996, p. 24) The Author, Michael Furtman, on the same p...

Ontario Whitetail Deer Records
Ontario records to aim at: The only whitetail world record taken in Ontario is in the weight category. According to NAHC, “This buck fell to bowhunter John Annett of Ontario, Canada, in 1977. It dressed out at 431 pounds on government certified scales.” (living the Hunt p. 151) Thus the live weight ...

Re: american broadheads
Have used the sonic heads to take two deer. Presently I have switched to the boltcutter because I am sold on higher
F0C . That being said The American Broadhead company now sells a 150 grain broadhead.

Re: Shocking Discovery With New Chronograph!
It's the weight as noted above. There is a loss of 5 feet per second for every added 25 grains of weight. Your bow is
right on. I shoot a phoenix and I have a chrono. I have verified this ratrio many times over the years.

Re: I LOST MY BEST FRIEND TODAY
My condolences and a thought for the day. The Cambridge physicist and Anglican priest offered a contemporary way of saying what needs to be said in facing the death of a loved one, including, I would hold, our beloved pets: "God will download our software on to his hardware, until the day comes...

Re: Boltcutter 150gr., let me down :(
Boltcutters have never let me down with two deer taken so far with them. One was a complete passthrough on a broadside shot. (picture available on the site) The other was my patented MNR shot (Manitoulin Rectal Shot) This is the opposite of a Texas Heart shot. I know two other excalibur crossbow hun...

Re: Broadhead Review
Perhaps you could try a high to extreme FOC before giving up on these. Spitfires don't open until impact so they should fly better. I took my first crossbow deer with a chinese clone of the Barnett wildcat using the original spitfire so I know they can work wonders. Try for example an arrow with a b...
