a serious question deserves a serious reply.

hello Peter,
The class of pigment dyes that are typically used in camo are designed
to prevent UV rays from fluorescing. Deer do not have UV filters found
in human eyes, so they can detect blue better than we can. We make sure
that the dyes we use do not exchange the energy from the UV to light (or
fluoresce.) One mistake I've seen hunters make is to wash their clothes
in regular laundry detergent. Detergent manufacturers have made
tremendous development strides in an effort to keep everyday clothes
looking new wash after wash. This advancement includes the use of
optical brighteners and causes the fibers to fluoresce. Hunters should
wash their hunting garments in special detergents that do not contain
the opticals. I even recommend washing the garments before you ever
wear them to reduce the chance of odors obtained in the store or at the
manufacturor. Another washing hint...turn your clothes inside/out while
washing them. This will aid in the washfastness and durability of the
prints.
Let me know if I can answer any more questions. I really enjoy
discussing matters such as these.

thanks billert. i did get your email.
maybe its the words he chose, but it looks to me like he never really guaranteed there were no uv's in there. there was no catagorical statement from him. i would be sus. dont know what you can do though. unless youve got the journalistic skills akin to the watergate reporters.
just have to look for the uv guaranteed free camo. thay are out there aparently.

[quote="j"] Whoever would wash their hunting clothes in regular detergent(Tide, Sunlight, etc.)and then go out hunting is a moron.

Ok so here is my question. I have a bib from Bass Pro. It is their Redhead CWS insulated/windproof/waterproof bib. The pattern is Real Tree HD Green. Is that UV free because it is realtree patterned or could a realtree bib made by another manufacturer have UV in it?

I am somewhat cautious of what my hunting clothes come in contact with but i think we are all blowing this out of proportion. UV in clothes does it really matter??? I wash my clothes in regular laundry detergent all the time an see deer close to me often. The older guys in our hunting gang have no concept at all of scent control clothing earthscent spray etc. and they seem to kill more deer then all of ther younger more cautious hunters! I am honesty starting to beleive that these companys are coming up with new ideas because we as hunters are bitting all they say!! The most important thing to do is play the wind and stay still I wouldn't worry about all this mobo jumbo!
aussie soldiers in the middle east in ww11 were famously called "the desert rats." (and the rats of trobruk) 'cause they dug in and couldnt be shifted. and they won. general rommel said "give me a battallion of australian soldiers and i'll rule the world". he couldn't beat us.
perhaps milliken makes the camo you are talking about? they are manufacturers and make more than one brand, i think.
here is a letter from them in response to an email from me.
Peter
I'm David Strength the Salesman for Milliken's INTRIGUE camo fabrics.
Thanks for the note. We do not use UV brighters in the dyes we use to print
our camo fabrics. Never have.
Brighters may come from you washing detergents. Most commercial detergents
include UV brighters to make fabrics look brighter and cleaner. Also, you
should avoid fabric softeners. This may be easier said than done.
I normally run my washer empty for a cycle before washing hunting clothes.
This also helps reduce any of the fragrance
found in most laundry detergents. Often, I wash hunting cloths in just
water, or if I need to kick it up a bit, I'll use
a detergent designed for hunting clothes. Be careful of the clothes dryer,
as if can't keep my wife from use those darn bounce sheets which will fill
the dryer and your hunting clothes with odors
Hope this helps and good hunting.
Best Regards
David

hey guys, huntman wrote:The most important thing to do is play the wind and stay still I wouldn't worry about all this mobo jumbo!
i hunt with at least 3 different guys in their 70's........
they don't use calls, they dont use scents, they have no idea what 'uv' is,
and yeah.......they get whatever deer they want, whenever they and the weather decide.......
i have to give in as well, but dont thell my hunting buds, they are right...
dont move............watch the wind.............
that's it!
my two cents again,
bowhunter4334
Humans are hunters and gatherers by nature, although most do it in grocery stores these days......Reality isn't what it used to be !

Wind , Still , and brakeup your sihoette.
I have always and will where Realtree Patterns. I was wash my camo inside out in Tide Non Scented soap.
I have passed on 21 deer in shooting range standing still.
I have missed 1 deer with a shot
I have Killed 4 Bucks and One Doe
and had one shooter buck come into Allmost Bow range last night , but to turn and follow a doe.
And this is all this Fall and I have yet to have one point at me and laugh.
UV rays have gone way over board in the hunting world ...BT
