The first crossbow I ever owned I got on e-bay.
I thought I was getting a real deal.
It was really cheap!
When it finally arrived I excitedly put it together.
With no word of a lie that bow was EXTREEMLY DANGEROUS
The first two shots were fine, the next time I cocked the bow, just as
I was taking my hand off the string the latch let go and the string whacked
me on the hand. As I was new at this I tried it again because I figured I
must have done it wrong. WHACK
And yes I tried this a number of times and sometimes the latch held but
most of the time it let go just catching my fingers as it flew by.
I took it to my local bow shop to see what was wrong with it, it hit him
on the hand too. We finally concluded that the bow should be condemed
before someone gets badly hurt, or worse.
Just think what could have happened if it had gone off with an arrow in it.
Therefore if you are thinking of getting a cheap crossbow on e-bay BUYER BEWARE!!
Or if you value your life and the people with you just don't do it!
Credit where due the seller refunded my money.
I shoot an Exocet now which has never let me down. I must admit I was
nervous evey time I cocked it, for about a year, because of my bad experience.

The price of oats
Some people simply refuse to pay the fair price for a product, looking more towards mere functionality at a lower cost (not price) than quality, and a the support manufacturer. It's like the price of oats. There's one price for sweet, fresh oats that the horse will enjoy. And then again, there's the price of oats after theve been through the horse! Each has its own price.!

I agree with most of what you are saying however,
If you buy a cheap tv from Walmart you would expect it to work.
When I got the cheap no name crossbow on e bay I had no experience with any kind of archery equipment and therefore I did expect it to work!
A friend of mine told me that it looked like a bow he used to have so it should be fine.(Barnett)
If you again got that same cheap tv at walmart you would not expect it to be potentially leathal when you turn it on!
As I got that crossbow on ebay, that is my experience.
However you are right in that it not ebay that is at fault and I should have said Aviod cheap knockoff crossbows wherever their origin
Bought my excal phoenix on ebay. Arrived perfect, shoots great and quality was as expected.
I paid $350US for the bow and right stuff package minus the scope.
Caveat Emptor is common practice regardless of buying location. Ebay is cannot be beat when you know how to use it properly.
i agree i have several things i have gotten on ebay i just got a bad experience with this one and wanted to share it with my fellow crossbow hunters

Trying to compare a TV and a weapon is like comparing apples to oranges.
I'm not trying to antagonize anyone here, but I am amazed when someone buys cheap stuff and then is shocked that they got junk. If you buy a $5 watch do you expect a Rolex?
Avoid some aggravation, use some common sense and stay away from cheap stuff, especially cheap weapons. You're going to get exactly what you pay for.
