Flight of the bolt

Post by Bucktail »

Hi all,

Friday evening I had the good fortune of taking my third deer this season with my Excalibur Max, using GT Laser 11 with bras insert and Wasp Boss 100 gr. 3 blade. 20 yd. perfect broadside shot down a fire break road. After the bolt hit and passed thru the deer, I could see what appeared like a tracer bullet going down the fire break road. First time I had seen that before.

The large doe went 30 yds, and piled up into a pine tree. Perfect double lung shot.

I took a quick look down the fire break for my bolt but it was dark and decided to go back Sat. to look for it. Didn't figure I would have much luck. Sat., went back and looked and finally found my bolt stuck in a tree, about two foot of the ground. The Wasp was buried all the way to the tip of the shaft. This was after passing thru the deer and traveling 66 yards to hit the tree. I had to use a wood chisel to get the Wasp out of the tree.

This is a photo from the bolt in the tree to the ground blind I used.

Billy G's portable take down blind.

A shot from inside the blind to the tree that stopped the bolt. Large tree in the middle of the photo.

I think I'll build some Alum bolts to use from the ground blinds from now on. Hate loosing them GT Laser 11's.

I like your pictures Jack. Congrats on the doe and your other two deer. That Exomax is one powerful xbow. Good thing there wasn't another deer standing behind.
