Another bolt size, make, performance question from a newbie

Post by Dipperdoo »

Nice forum. I'm new to the crossbow and like others have a question on bolts length, make, weight. I already used the search function to explore this topic with some success, but I am looking for carbon hunting combinations that work for those that shoot a phoenix. If you would be so kind as to fill in the blanks, it would be greatly appreciated...
Length________
Weight without tip_______
Vane length_________
make________
broadhead make and weight_________

Thanks in advance.

Length 18-20 inches
250-275 gr
I like 4 inch vanes by Duravane
Gold Tip Laser lls or Beman Thunder bolts
I prefer 100 gr Slick Tricks or Montec G5s
These combos will work on most Excalibur xbows

Dipperdoo first of all ......... welcome to the forum.

You sound like your educated enough to want to be able to tinker with your arrows. If so, then I will let others fill out your blanks that you have listed.

What I normally tell people is to get the arrows that Excalibur puts out. They are very good. I use the allum. arrows and have for over 20 years. The length of the arrows is generally 20 inches. Some will shorten, and some will lengthen the arrows, but I would say that over 95% of the shooters will use 20" arrow.

The broad head is an open ended discussion. All the excalibur bows will shoot almost all quality heads accurately. In a search of broad heads on this forum you will see that many different heads are used.

Good luck.
Tom

I would agree with all of the above, with the exception of the 250-275 gr weight, since I know Digger meant 350-375 gr. I guess, either his fingers slipped and hit the 2 instead of the 3, or he was having a "senior moment".

CB,
The orginal post asked for "weight without tip" :) hence the 250...

Cheers,
-Mike
PS I agree too, but I'm going with 19" bolts and 125gr Slicks...
