O/T Gas Price.

Post by A.W »

Well it looks like we're all going to get soaked again this year for gas. It hit over CAN$1.00 a litre here in Toronto.

It said on the news this morning that the companies are a "little jittery" due to the upcoming hurricane season. Two months away.

Last week they said the gas was going up because the refineries were switching from heating oil.

Guess they have lots of excuses to jamb us.

On the upside, I hear natural gas is going down. Little comfort in that.

they can say "we are jacking up the prices because all of the idiots out there will still waste gas" and people will still buy gas like normal.

they will keep jerking everyone around unless people start switching to carpooling, public transit, or biking rather than driving themselves everywhere.

take a minute and think of how much gas you could save if you rode your bike to go see "frank" or to pickup a couple things from the store.

Have you ever noticed those little signs on gas pumps that show how the price/litre is divided? X% for the oil, Y% to refine it, Z% taxes... and 2% profit. I have a hard time belieivng that, when the price per litre changes 9.6% in less than 8 hours. Does the dealer's cost also change by the hour.

I firmly believe that if we all reduced our gas and/or oil consumptiom by 50%, the refineries would tripple the price to ensure ample profit. We have had an extremely warm winter here in eastern Canada/USA, has the price of fuel oil gone down because of lower consumption? No!
What do you think would (will) happen when our dependancy of oil is eliminated? The few oil products that we still need will cost an arm/leg and your first born. Supply and demand is not the rule here, it is how much can we soak these stupid people that are dependant on our product.

my 1.5 cents.

The only reason they are raising gas prices is because they can.

The kid at the ESSO station here in town said the owner just paid 92 cents/litre for a tankload last week. Take from this what you want, but I guess it's the refineries and the government, not the gas stations. Most of my gas is company gas, so I could care less, for the time being.

I too drive a company vehicle and do not pay for the gas at the pump but guess what? The cost of doing business by all companies is not absorbed when there are increases in fuel prices but passed on to the consummer. I end up paying for the greed of these multi nationals just like everyone else. This is the root cause of inflation and wage increases do not keep up with it.

It burns my butt when I read in the paper about how some Saudi Sheik decides to build an indoor ski resort in the middle of a desert to amuse himself and his buddies or create an island to build a billion dollar resort hotel on it.

Something is grossly wrong with this world.

actually, if people stopped wasting so much gas prices would go down. look at how much profit they are making right now. they could lower it to .60/litre and would still make profits. they are greedy and know that everyone will pay the price no matter how high it goes.

they can charge whatever they want and people will still buy it. they know that people will buy it so they flip a coin. heads they raise prices, tails they keep prices the same for that day.

I had to put some gas in this morning and it was $ 1.10 cents a litre. I know it will get even more expensive here as soon as the tourist season starts.
