My son's turkey
My son shot this turkey on Saturday morning. He has his apprenticeship hunting licence.
I called in 2 toms and he shot one of them.
Check out the spurs on him.
20 lbs,
1 1/8 spurs'
9 1/2 inch beard.

Congrats to you and your son.
Congratulations to you and your son. I'm sure it was as thrilling for you to watch as it was for your son to shoot the bird.

Grey Owl,
They are indeed used for fighting. You got to be careful when you walk up on a bird right after it has been shot because while it is doing the "funky chicken" it can gash you pretty good if it catches you with a spur.
Here's a video clip I found of two turkeys having words .

Hey Grey Owl,GREY OWL wrote:Congrats Peter, to you and your son. How old is the lad? Question #2, what is the purpose for the spurs? Are they used for defense? Just curious.

Congrats on the fine Gobbler, them spurs are nice. Its been a long time since I shot a pink spurred bird, they seem to be few and far between.
Nice pic and nice memories...BT
