String Length

Post by vixenmaster »

I have a grey and black string that is 36 1/2" long and a green and black string is 36" long and a green and brown string that is 35" long. I was testing to see which one is the most quiet and fastest. Why the big difference in length? I shoot a Phoenix, the green and brown string is the shortest and is 3/8" past farthest brace height line, will it hurt the limbs if i shoot it? All these strings are brand new!

The black and gray 36" is likely a #1989 Fast Flight Flemish hand made for molded limbs only. The green and black 36" is likely a # 2097 Flemish Super string for for carved or molded limb tips. The green and brown 35" is likely a #2010 Dacron for carved limb tips only.
Good luck,

As I myself am not really sure what ya got, I can tell ya this only. If you have the MagTip limbs they all will work, if carved tip don't use any of them as you could blow your limbs, so be safe and if carved tip limbs buy a new string you know is for the carved tip limbs.

They all will stretch some and need twisted back up to the proper brace height after a number of shot's. Following is a link and a Quote by wabi on strings that might help ya!

PRB,
To simplify:
The two string types are flemish twist and endless loop.
You probably already know the two types, but flemish twist has loops formed by twisting the material back into the string to form loops and endless loop is made of one big loop of string material with the loops being served.
The two materials are fastflight and dacron.
There are many types (and brands) of material used for "fastflight" strings, but all are very low stretch compared to dacron.
Basically the Excal strings are fastflight flemish twist, Excellerant - a fastflight endless loop string, and the old "standard" string - a dacron endless loop.
Fastflight flemish strings stretch as the loops "settle in" then stretch very littlewith continued use.
Excellerant strings stretch very little at all.
Dacron endless loop strings stretch quite a bit at first, then settle in and remain fairly stable after a while.
As far as I know there are no dacron flemish twist strings offered for Excaliburs unless you know a custom stringmaker.

The Excellerant strings are what come's with most new Excaliburs :!:

Just noticed  stated you are shooting a Phoenix so they all would work. The fastest would be the Fast Flight Flimish .... :D
Always learning!!
