OT, New Long Range Target Gun

Post by JR »

I know alot of you like to shoot guns as well. This is my new Long Range (up to 1000 meters) setup. It a Savage 10 FPLE-1a in .223 with a Barska 8x32x50 Varmint scope with a mildot reticle. Amazing shooter. Anyone else in the LR game? Post 'em if ya got 'em!

Beautiful weapon. A true tack driver. :D

I don't have any pics, but there is a local group of us here that shoot 50 cal. competition at 1000 yds. Biggest problem is finding a place to shoot. Not to many 1000 yd. ranges.

Yup, that was mine. :D I'm happier than a fat kid in a candy store! I'm totally addicted to the LR game. There's something about hitting playing cards @ 300 meters. Once I get my cam back, (I dropped it trying to get a pic of the reticule on the scope  ) I'll be posting a few more. BTW Hi5, what's your nick on CGN?

I've got the Savage 12 BVSS model in 223. Shoots amazingly small groups. Try the 75 grain Hornady Match bullet for long range. It really shoots great out of my rifle over heavy loads of Varget powder. My local range goes to 500 yards and its really fun shooting way out there with the little 223.

Yeah, kinda.

Nice rifle, here's mine.

Savage 10FP .308 Accutrigger, Bell & Carlson Duramaxx stock, Sightron 4x16x42 Mildot. Ken Farrell 20MOA base with Tactical Precision Systems TSR-W rings. Overlooking one of my hunting areas.

Nice setup Huntin1. Beautiful country as well. One of my 5 shot groups to date is .586" @150 yards. I was testing out the gun after I bought it using Wichester white box 45 gr. JHP's. I'll be getting the rest of my reloading gear tomorrow (hopefully) and I'll be loading up some 68 gr. Hornady match ammo. Here's a pic of the group.

Nice shooting JR.

I forgot to mention that the ammo I used was fatory match ammo from Black Hills Ammunition, bullet was the 168 grain Sierra MatchKing. The rifle shoots my reloaded Nosler Ballistic Tips almost as well.

The black hills ammo is pretty hard to come by up here (unless it's smuggled in). I've heard some pretty good things about it though. Is that your LR coyote/ground squirrel rig?

Right now it's my everything rig. The only other rifle I have is a Ruger 10/22. Wife got sick a few years ago and I've gotten rid of most of my rifles to help pay the medical bills, Mayo Clinic is an awesome place, but expensive.
