Therma Cell question

Post by Farmer »

Went to Walmart ( here in Canada ) to pick up a Therma cell, seen them there 2 weeks before. looked around and there was not a one. Asked a salesperson if they were getting more stock. I was then informed they had been pulled from the shelf. When I asked why they could give me no reason.
There is nothing on the Therma cell web site. Anyone got some info?

Canadian tire sells them as a special order item, as they say it it doesn't sell fast enough to stock the shelves with them. Maybe that happened at Wal-Mart.

I bought one a few weeks ago. Have you guys read the warning label on that stuff? They are warning that one of the main components has not even been tested for its effect on humans, for Heaven's Sake! Some of the other component is deadly on fish, so much so, that you are supposed to dispose of the used mats in almost as cautious a manner as if it were dioxin. Don't even touch the mats with your fingers?

I was holding back on my concerns, but maybe there is more to it than being a "slow moving" product.

We have used this product for two years now; without any side effects or adverse re-actions.

The bugs leave alone and we don't bother them either!

If there is a problem; it has not affected my clan at all!

Please post any adverse opinions ASAP!

I haven't had a problem with mine yet. Let me know if there really is something to worry about or is it some rumour.

You can still pick them up at http://canadianextreme.com

Thanks for the reference to the Therma Cell site.

The warnings on the Therma Cell packaging are sure a lot more powerfull than on their web site.

On the packaging, there is a very strong caution about how toxic the product is to fish, hence the warning not to put the stuff in water.

You are warned not to touch the pads with your fingers.

Also, one of the other components, which makes up something like 10% of the active ingredients, is declared to be untested.

I'm not saying that the product is unsafe.

The manufacturer may be guilty of nothing more than honest advertising.....stating certain risks, and saying they don't know the risk level for one of the components.

Still, it does make one think.....or should.

I bought one last year during deer season. I only had to use it a couple of times and then used it again this spring during turkey season. It is supposedly odorless - but I can actually smell it. During turkey season I actually had to turn mine off because it was giving me a headache and making my mouth water. Not sure what component was doing this to me (the butane fluid being burned or the allethrin in it), but it definitely was affecting me. I will however use it!

The last thing I heard about the therma cell was that they were taken off the shelves ( here in Canada that is ) because thay have not yet been CSA approved. It has that small heating element and that is the concern.
