New Phoenix

Post by scratcherky »

:D I just finished putting my Phoenix together and am really anxious to try it out. One question I have is the string that came with the bow is much darker than the string that was in the Right Stuff package. I would like to know what the differences are and how is performance affected between the two? Which is the preferred string?

Thanks,
Don

What do you mean by darker? The string is darker? or the middle server is darker colour?

with my Max I got the all black string with orange sever and green ends. both with the Bow and the right stuff Package. If you have the brown and green string with the silver serving I would use that one. Just string it and put some deck wax on the serveing. ( I use a hair dryer melts the wax right into the serving) let it cool for a few mins and you will be good to go if you followed the DVD instructions. I received the newer one brown and green from Dan Miller due to the fact that the original flew off when I fired it on the Exomax and it cracked a limb. Dan had me a new limb in 3 days with 2 new strings at no charge. The Exomax leaves no forgivness when it comes to a dry fire or a bolt not set all the way back. Even though I had the correct brace height and the bolt seated the string came off. With Dans string it sets the brace height high at first but settles in at 1 1/8 after 40 shots or so and stayed there after 100 + shots. I like the FFF string but with the Max you have to watch the stretch and brace height and it is a little rough on the severing. Center wind on the string. The Phoenix dollar for dollar and lb for lb is the way to go. Dan Miller talked me into that one.Thats why I am getting one next month and saving the Max for my trip to Austraila or if I get a chance for some Elk hunting around here. If you have any worries call Dan Miller at 1-740-483-2312 Horizontal Archery he loves his crossbow work and loves to talk about them.

The decal on my bow says I have a 14.5" power stroke so I think that means it is this year model. Servings on both strings are identical and the same color. The loop ends are gray with black serving and the center serving is a
little darker shade of gray.

The new Phoenix's are 14" power stroke, the previous Phoenix, like I had, is a 14.5" power stroke. I think I was right, you have last years Phoenix, and this years Right Stuff Package.

Our new PHOENIX crossbow proves once and for all that good things come in small packages! Using our new 175 lb. forward mounted limb system, the PHOENIX stores more energy into a smaller crossbow than ever before possible, producing velocities in excess of 305 fps with a power stroke of only 14". The Phoenix is ideal for smaller stature hunters or those who appreciate the advantages of hunting with a compact, lightweight crossbow, but don’t want to sacrifice hitting power or trajectory. Each PHOENIX comes decorated in "Realtree Hardwoodsâ camouflage using the amazing new "Kolorfusion" process for the ultimate in realism and detail, comes drilled and tapped for Excalibur’s scope and quiver mounts, and features quick detach sling studs and our fiber optic sight. All excalibur crossbows are equipped with our industry leading 3 lb. pull trigger.

Although I never owned a Pheonix I thought they were just a Vixen 14" power stroke with a new style riser, the the Vixen got a 13 1/2 " power stroke, and the new Pheonix stayed at 14"

My understanding, as per the following urls

http://www.excaliburcrossbow.com/demo/d ... nt_265.pdf
http://excaliburcrossbow.com/demo/m/con ... ent_id=143

is that for 2006 both the Vixen and Phoenix have changed by 1/2". The Vixen's power stroke was reduced to 13.5", while the Phoenix's was increased to 14.5".
