Being an outdoor writer for both Gun and Bow hunting magazines, what I like to do is write about myself or a buddy and preferably a kid, getting a big buck. If I can I will make a hero out of them, and doing so it will make who ever reads the article want to go hunting too.
That has been put on hold....Now that I have joined the Crossbow movement.......
So they made me the chairmen for the legalization of the crossbow in Louisiana.....I have been talked about, black balled, insulted, left out of activities, fired from a newspaper, and stonewalled by politicians. None of this bothers me in the least.
Cause I got an army behind me, if you want to just see, check out these websights for the best in pro-crossbow information and dont miss "Plucking the Loon" by yours truly at www.crossbowhunting.net
and http://lahunters.proboards61.com for more La X-bow articles by the Dan Hendrickson and of course me.
Then come back here and tell us what you think....And by all means get an Excalibur Crossbow....When I get mine, after all the bull I went through I'm having the state of Louisiana engraved in gold on the stock..Pass it on.

John: That was a good read! Thanks for fighting the "good fight". As you know, La. has a permit system for handi-capped. I have friends that have 380 acres of property strictly set-up for deer hunting, lots of food plots and about 25 stands. In order for me to take them up on their offer to hunt there, I would have to make an appointment w/ La. doctor, drive 3-4 hours one way. Apparently, an Arkansas Veterans Admin doctor is less qualified than a La. Veterans Dr. All needless bs in my book. Their dumb regulations are just costing them money, as many will just not get a license or permit and just hunt. It would be cheaper to just pay a possible fine than to jump thruogh the hoops. I can just wait another year and hit the magical age of 60 and be legal. thanks again.

Re: xbow movement
Should you ever want to hunt Ft Polk WMA, I can have our Army Doctors take care of varifing any disabilitys...all legal of course. The Chief Fed game warden is a crossbow man and a member of my hunting club. Of course La gun season is so long, most use a gun anyway. By the way I am from Magazine Arkansas....awshucks wrote:John: That was a good read! Thanks for fighting the "good fight". As you know, La. has a permit system for handi-capped. I have a form for an application for disability, doesn't seem that difficult, only trouble is the opisition runs around harassing you in the woods or on the range...Of course this does not happen at Ft Polk range or the WMA because we saw it coming. Of course we have the finest archery range in the state...NFAA, ASA and American Crossbow Federation thanks to TNUSA.

When I said I had an Army I wasnt Kiding. Actully I work with Fort Polk MWR on shooting sport activity. We are now looking to have a large Crossbow Tournament. Of course we are looking for shooters and Sponsors. This looks like a good start.
Ft Polk has a new shooting complex and one of the finest 3-D archery ranges you will ever see. It Is certainly world class. All we need is the people to promote a good tournament. Looking to have at least 50 shooters...ASA cant do it yet...although we have had several ASA shoots.

Just when the crossbow cannibals thought it was safe to come outside, and perhaps say. "Well who is this unknown outdoor writer guy stirring up the people." Providence intervened. The Louisiana Outdoor Writers Assn. just informed me I won an EIC Award (Excellence in Craft) for outdoor writers.
Local politics got me fired as an outdoor writer at my local newspaper twice,
once for telling a joke, and once for condeming turkey poachers.
Both those articles are award winners in themselves
Oh well you never can make it in your hometown...
Anyway this adds a little clout when I support the crossbow movement, while I'm sure the cannibals are suffering "Nashing of teeth," as they genuflect at the alter of the church of denile.....some times I just cant stand myself...pass it on.

Good luck with your education attempts. I used to argue with the hardheads that say a crossbow isn't archery and don't know that I ever convinced one of them it really is. The uninformed will listen, but the misinformed are usually already convinced fiction is fact. As for me, living in Ohio where the crossbow has been "archery" for many decades I now just tell them to read the Ohio laws. Here a crossbow is indisputably "allowable hunting equipment", so instead of arguing I spend my time hunting. Whether I take the longbow or crossbow is my choice, not theirs! And there's no doubt in my mind they're both "archery"
