First deer ever!

Post by sclitaco »

Here is a picture of me and my buddy Jay with the 8 pointer he took on opening day. He shot it from a ground blind set up in some hardwoods. The deer came into about 15 yards, but would not turn broadside. Jay took the shot with his new Pheonix, hitting it in the throat, cutting the jugular. The deer was recovered about 170 yards from where he hit it. I think recovery would have been shorter had he waited just abit longer to track him. This is the first deer Jay has ever even shot at!

Nice buck! I had to do that a couple of years ago...took him in the jugular....not the preferred shot, but it sure makes them bleed if you hit it! My buck only went about 50 yards...died within a minute....That was one determined fellow if he went 170 yards!

Good work.
