I saw one last October go by my stand at 20 yrds. Moving quickly and straight as an arrow through the bush.

I know they have been trapped in nearby Minesing Swamp, but this was the first one I have ever seen in over 20 years hunting near Barrie.

Looks like something I saw in Colorado one time. I didn't know what it was and tried describing it to other hunters and they said it was probably a Martin. This looks like what I saw though. Only time I've ever seen one.

I've seen fishers on three different occasions.

Once while overlooking a bait station, bear hunting.

Once while still hunting deer.

The best one; I was canoing with my mom. We approached an island about as big as a dining room table. As we did something ran from the island, jumped to the next little island and then proceeded to get into the water. Swimming for the mainland, we managed to paddle right up next to him.

I have come across their killing grounds. Quite obvious. More than a half dozen porqupine carcasses.

I've seen a couple so far this year at the bait pile.

Are we allowed to take these little buggers with the bow? They look like they would make a nice mount.

Nope. They are classed as furbearers and can only be taken under the licence to trap.

Thanks Chris, good to know.

He was on the bait pile, so hopefully my trail cam got a good picture of him.

Martins? we have a few here in Alaska. But folks they are squirrel eaters. Where you have a lot of squirrels here we see lots of martin activity. I'm shocked beyond belief to hear they eat porcupines. I know where I live the real killer on the porkies is the auto. This in the summer and fall is the number one road kill. In the fall/winter it switches to moose. So far this season in my area we are up to 38 moose killed on the roads. I guess the martins where you folks live are different?
