Said my silent thank yous this morning while in my duck blind. Sat the gun down, and just took it all in. We have this great free country because of those brave men and women.

We can never thank them enough.

I always feel like my time in the US Navy wasn't really all that big of a deal. After all, my service was a bit different from what you'd picture for the navy anyway. Spent most of my time in the mojave desert (weapons test center). Joined the navy, and fought sidewinders, scorpions, and black widow spiders  and all three were very common in the hangers there!

saxman - hope your dad is doing OK! I'll remember him in my prayers.
My dad was a navy veteran and was at Pearl Harbor on the day of the attack. Lost him to cancer several years ago.

I had the same thoughts today ... we are very fortunate and owe alot to the many that have made the ultimate sacrifice ...

Couldn't agree more. Without our brave men and women were would our country be? Just last week my daughter (17) came home from school a mess. She found out that her best friends brother (19) is on his way to Iraq. My son's (21) best friend is on his third tour in Iraq. Keep all of them in your thoughts and prays. God bless!!

thank you for the "thank you". i didn't serve during wartime but i was blessed to have been a service during a couple of "hairy" ordeals. i was in south korea when president park chung hee was assinated by his cabinet members during a banquet and i was at yakima firing center training when mt. st. helen erupted. in both cased i was able to do my small part in being a service to this nation and to the world. again i thank you for the "attaboy" God bless ytou. :)
