Got A Nice Buck

Post by Ben S. »

Went hunting from Thursday evening until Saturday. Thursday afternoon, Friday morning and Friday evening we saw nothing. Saturday morning was really mild with barely no wind at all. All I was seeing was squirrels everywhere. At around 7:30 am I saw movement almost directly in front of me about 75 yds out. It was a small tree kind of moving back and forth and then I saw antlers thrashing it. I watched him for almost 40 minutes slowly making his way in my direction as he would stop to make at least 3 huge scrapes and lick branches and smell and lick the ground. At one point I think he stayed in one spot smelling the ground for 10-12 minutes. I've never been able to watch a buck for that long. Well he finally got to within about 18 yds and turned broadside. I shot (Exomag,Laser II,100gr. Slick Tricks)and he ran and stopped 15 yds directly behind me. I watched him look back toward me and then after about 30 seconds he just fell over and never moved again. It was probably my best hunting experience ever. It has been a really weird year. I never saw a doe all year. I saw 3 deer this year, all bucks (button,5pt,and this 9 pt) and I got them all. Hope I do this picture thing right.

Great buck. Glad to hear that they are still working the scrapes too. Haven't seen anything since before the shotgun season and the scrape activity seems to have died out. Congratulations!
