HE'S DOWN -- FINALLY!!! story added

Post by huntman »

I took a nice eight pointer tonight... this is the buck that has been playing me for the last month, but his luck ran out tonight!!!

So the story goes like this:

I was sitting in the same stand that i took the six pointer out of in late Oct. Accross the field about 250 yards away there was a friend sitting in one of the other stands. These are the 2 stands that this buck has been playing me with for the last month. When i was in stand A he came out at stand B and when i was at B he was at A. And when we had 2 guys in in the stands he didnt show his face. Anyways it was getting dark and along the edge of the bush line i could see a deer walking in my direction coming from the other stand, it was a fawn and she came directly to my carrots and began to feed, i watched her for about 5 mins while she ate at 20 yards from the stand. I didnt want to shoot her, i have been letting fawns and does walk for the last month so watching her was satisfaction enough. After a few mins she began to look into the bush a few times when i heard branches break and saw a big body deer at the edge of the bush. I was convinced it was her mom and then suddently saw RACK!! The problem i had was i was running out of shooting time and the buck would not present a broadside shot. He came within under 20 yards and was facing me with his head down into the carrots. He then started to stare in the direction my buddy was in and started to get nervous and stomping his hoof. I figure my buddy was coming down from the stand and the deer was about to leave, he turned his head to the right and turned his body enough for me to see the right side of his neck. I let the bolt fly and where i wanted to put it it went! He dropped in his tracks and I finished him off with a second bolt! Was that luck or a good shot..... probably both, but we dont hunt with "the world most accurate crossbow" for nothing!!! :D :D :D

arrow in the neck looks to maybe have spined the deer? not sure just a thought.

:) Congrats, nice buck. Nothing wrong with spineing a deer, if you did, just means he was probably close. That's how I got mine.
