Quiver Alternatives

Post by John Wade »

A couple of things I've been unhappy with regarding my exomag (love it never the less) One the quiver bolts keep loosening off and now are both gone along with part of the attachment. I kept tightening, they kept loosening. I had the same problem with the scope mount. Watched the video and learned that the fellow that put it together should have put some goop on the screw ends. Also the little rubber ring on the scope eye piece keeps coming loose. All little things but a pain.

Anyway I'm looking for a quiver alternative to excaliburs. Also I have the mechanical tips and they don't fit snug enough in the stock quiver.

Thanks,

Bohning Lynx 4 arrow quiver is the best quiver for a crossbow. You can do a search on this site for the Dan Miller quiver bracket if you want to mount your quiver up top. If you want to look at an off-bow solution - check into the Sidewinder hip quiver bracket. I bought one earlier this year and have really liked it. I started out with Excalibur quiver and bracket. I didn't like either. Went with the Lynx on top of the Dan Miller bracket next. Now I'm using the Sidewinder. If I go back to bow mounted - I'll use the Dan Miller bracket.

I have a Bohning on my sons vixen and my maxpoint. But I put the excal quiver on my exomag and I like it better. Try some blue lock tight on your bolts, just take them out one at a time put on a little and torque them back down the same.

My bohning had a tendency to drop bolts and fall off in heavy brush, so I have fixed that problem with some velcro. If you use the gold tip or excal bolts many of the other quiver choices are a little loose reference the rubber bolt holders. They are made for a little larger diameter bolt or arrow.

My suggestion is keep the excal quiver, use lock tight, you need to do that to your xbow anyway if it was not done when you assembled it.

I use a side quiver to carry my arrows no matter what bow I am using---I don`t like anything extra attached to my bow---just me.With the side quiver and 20 inch bolts only about 1/2 inch of the rear of the bolt is sticking out the top of the quiver so it really doesn`t matter what my fletching colours are-- they are hidden.I can also carry more than 4 arrows this way.

I didn't like having my Kwickee quiver attached to my crossbow, but I liked the quiver. So I made a piece that I could mount the quiver to and wear it on a belt, works pretty good. I used 3 layers of stiff nylon web belt material, both glued and sewn together, and then bolted the mounting bracket to it so that I could attach or remove quiver as I need to.

I'll second the groundpounder mount with your quiver of choice - great system in my book.

I don't mind my excal quiver being attached to my xbow till I am in my tree stand then I like to remove it, but I am trying to come up with a way to attach it to the tree when I'm in it. M&M

Neat Idea Huntin 1. Have never seen that one done before. You should post that in the topic "homeade stuff".

It is easy, get another quick release bracket and mount it on a large wood screw and screw it to the tree, or glue the quick release bracket to your stand.

I take mine off and click a rappelling clip to it and hang it on my stand straps. Or sometimes I clip a long pull up string and I just let it set down at the bottom of the tree.

Also remember if you make it a safety practice not to cock it in the tree then you really don't even need the quiver up there with you anyway.

Awesome solution to hip quiver mount. The only thing I would try to do differently is come up with a way of being able to rotate the quiver.

huntin1 I am like you I do not like the quiver on my crossbows, so I attached my quiver to some leather and wear it on my hip. I angled the brackets so that the bolts will be angled back while the quiver is on my hip that way it is not in my way. I like the fact that when I am sitting I can remove the quiver.

M&M,

If you don't like screwing the bracket into the tree, just use a bungee cord and run it through the quiver and wrap it around the tree. Works like a champ.
