Yes, it is a model 62 and my pride and joy :D :D :D My grandfather gave me the gun a few years before he passed away. This picture is of him with the same gun and the picture was taken in 1935. I would lose every possession I have before I would ever let this gun go, except to pass it on to a family member once I'm too old to use it anymore.

My brother-in-law used to live right across the street from me when I was a little shaver and he had one. The bluing was so beautiful on that rifle. He used to let me shoot gophers on occasion and it was always a treasure to handle it.

I also like those little Browning semi-auto 22's. I bought one and was going to have a supressor made for it (I'd pay the $200 tax) but the little sucker was a bottom ejector and it flicked hot shells right on your bare arm and it hurt!

So I saw this Taurus replica of the 62 and it is a pretty fine gun. I think they do a good job with quality and it only has a 16 1/2" barrel on it which is neat to carry in my ARGO.

Last I looked Model 62's were going for about $800 to $900 in mint shape.

DrDAN I also have my grandfathers winchester 22 it's just like yours but it has a octagon barral an the but plate is like a half moon nock. I can't remember the model it's in the gun safe,I get more time I'll let you know what it is. He also gave me his two model 12's one is a 16 gage full choke the other is a 12 gage mod. those were the guns that made me get a gun safe. Times in my life I sure needed money, but they never cross my mind. Those three things MONEY CAN'T BUY........ If it wasn't for my dad an grandfather I wouldn't be hunting today. When my grandfather got were he couldn't hunt he gave me the guns, him an my dad are allways with me while I'm hunting, it my sound crazy to some people its as if I can feel there presents while im hunting, we were a close FAMILY....... I've got a ten year old granddaughter that I'm going to start soon with. Take care an keep on HELPING.

I am lucky enough to have my original shotgun that belonged to my dad. It was sold by Montgomery Ward in the early 20's. Called a "White Powder Wonder" and is a sigle barrel twenty with hammer. I hunted with that shotgun for the past 50 years and it just points right for me. Looks like hell. The barrel has taken on a fine brown patina, receiver is blotched with brown all over with white metal on wear spots. Stock has many nicks and cuts.

My hunting buddy gives me all kinds of crap about that gun. He starts this crap about "Do you hear Banjos Playing?" "Sheep will run from yah if yah carry that gun." "You should inlay a chrome plated naked lady in the buttstock", etc., etc.

Anyhow one day I was in between shotgun trades and we went pheasant hunting and I took the WP Wonder. I killed nine birds that day and he got three. That was the end of the razzing - he now always asks if I'm going to take it out on our hunts. I have rods in my back so my swing is abreviated but with that gun I can continue my swing one handed and know just where it is gonna hit. Recently I found a Charles Daly O/U 20 that only weighs 5 1/4# and I do well with it also, but it is just nice to take the old WP Wonder out once in awhile and savor the past.

You just gotta love old weapons especially if they been in the family for centuries. I'll tell you if they ever pulled the gun confiscation crap they pulled in Australia and England here and start picking up guns, I believe the adage "You have to pry it out of my cold dead hands" would come true.

Old guns are like old friends never to be given up except in death.
