Front Sight suggestions and Target Bows...........

Post by TonyU »

I'm using the supplied fiber optic sight on my Phoenix. I've been playing around and having some William Tell fun shooting at an apple at 30 yards. This bow is fantastically accurate, but the fiber optic pin obscures the entire apple at that distance. I'm doing pretty well, in spite of this. I wondered if any of you have replaced yours with one of a smaller diameter with good results. Are there any sights that would fit that you can recommend?

I'm also considering a fun target crossbow for this purpose and wondered if the Vixen would do well with a different front sight. I would consider the new Apex, but I'm kind of strange about colors. I don't care for the blue at all. Black or brown would work for me, or even the gold on the older Point Blanc model.

Since I won't be doing any formal shooting/competition, I keep picturing the Vixen with a new front sight and a nice laminate stock. Sounds good to me. What do you think?

Thanks for any input. I LOVE these Excalibur crossbows

My wish is........

My wish is for Excalibur to produce a more serious Target Crossbow. Not a Swiss Winzeler $$!!, but something with more options that of course would cost a couple hundred dollars more. Maybe offer a custom shop version? choice of a better aperture sight, laminate stock, etc.? (now it's getting expensive!......but maybe something in the $600.-$800. range?)

For now though, I am considering their older Point Blanc, if I could just get a hold of one in excellent condition. I guess the Vixen is still a possibility when dropped into a laminate target stock and equipped with target sights. (if someone had a good recommendation). I'm doing some searches at the moment.

I didn't notice a separate forum category for target crossbows, so I've posted here. I hope it's O.K. Thanks for any input.....anybody? :D

Tony
In your quest for a better pin sight, alas I have no answer. I would also be interested in some kind of multi-pin sight for my Vixen. I have searched on this forum and found some resourceful sights that some have made, unfortunately, I don't possess the skill to be able to do this. I like the fiber optic sight that came with my bow, I wish though, that they made a bracket that could accomodate two or three pins, like the old pin sights you could get for recurves, these are easier and familiar for me to adjust. I think there was a sight called an "alpha cross" that was available at one time, that could be made to fit an Excalibur, but I have never seen one. I have tried a scope, and it was fine, but I didn't really care to scope my crossbow, so I took it off. Good luck, and if you find anything let me know!

Regards
Joe

Hey thanks ............

Thanks for responding Joe. Does the Apex or older Point Blanc come with smaller apertures and front pin sight? If so, would Excalibur sell those parts separately? I should probably post this question alone.
