hogs,hogs

Post by hatchet jack »

here in kansas, the state just killed 250 wild hogs, they are becoming a real pain, destroying crops & crop land , possible carrying disease that will get into the domestic hogs & cattle. i have a permit to hunt them on private land, but decided not to eat them. the state wont let you hunt them on public land,,,,they also destroy turkey nests & eat their young.

Thats surprising that your state will not allow you hunting them on public land. Here in Georgia you can hunt them during any species of hunting season you are only restricted to using weapons legal for the current season. As far as eating, they are great. But like all pork it needs to be cooked well. Happy Hunting!

at one time we could hunt them on public land, but the hunting pressure ,run them on private land, & that created problems with farmers & domestic animals. also the state believes the wild hogs might carry , berculocis ( not spelled right) if they pass it to the domestic animale, then we have a problem, we have lots of cattle in this country & that is 1 disease the farmer, ranchers dont want & i am not intrested in eating them if they have this disease.

Maybe more Farmers should let you hunt Hogs on their land!
The D.N.R should realize that if the Hogs are a problem, perhaps the Farmers should be encouraged to allow more Hog Hunting on their land!
If they can't get more Farmers to allow hunting, perhaps hunting Public Land is a reasonable option.
The reason you can'y hunt Hogs on Public Land should be questioned!
IMO.

250 Hogs hunted by the State to control a population sounds like an attempt to placate somebody (i.e Farmers) to me! ???!

How many Hogs could there be in your State?
Enjoy the Harvest!
