Going North.........way north

Post by ecoaster »

I'll be off the board for a few months. I have to go up north for work. We are building a new wharf for a nikel mine in Northern Quebec. A little place called Deception Bay. It is at the nothern tip of Quebec on Hudson's Strait. Nothing there but char, caribou, whales, seals and some other critters. The mining camp where we are staying is very remote, so I will be bringing my fishing gear and maybe I will get to tag along with some of our Inuit workers if they are off on a Caribou hunt.

Should be interesting. We'll be above the tree line and it is daylight for about 20hrs/day this time of year.

I'll be sure to post some pics when I get a chance, as long as a hungry bear doesn't get me first  .

Talk to you guys soon!

Bringing back many good memories for me. I spent two years in Hall Beach NWT (N68.43.39 W81.15.50) (now Nunavut), its way up there in the Foxe Basin. Back in the mid 80s I was a Captain defending North America from those pesky Russians on the DEW Line as part of NORAD. The town of Hall Beach had 400 Inuit people, while the radar site had 80 staff. The fishing was great, Arctic Char...the best!
I could go on but most would be board. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Ungava Bay, is awesome. The brown trout are huge. Did some caribou hunting there a few years back.

I guess you are going to be gone longer than the couple weeks you had originally thought. Will you be back in time for the deer?

Enjoy the experience.

There is a limited weather window for doing any in-water work. We have to be out of there at the end of October, but my work should be done by mid September. After that I can take a few weeks off for my overtime.
