Yea welcome, i have an exomax. The vortex is a really sweet bow but the triggers have some flaws, so i hear, i personally like the traiditional style stock too, i would take the phoenix or even exocet 200, great bow!

The Vortex I just purchased for my wife has a better trigger than our other Max and older Exocet. If you are buying new then try a few from your dealer and select the one that suits you.

Pitch,
Welcome to the forum, one of the finest places on the net for xbow archery. I think that you will be happy with any Ecxalibur xbow as long as it is comfortable for you. I have the Exocet and I couldn't be happier with it or the way that Excalibur stands behind their xbows. I tried the vortex at the local archery shop and I found the thunbhole stock uncomfortable though many here really like it. My recommendation is to go to the local shop and put it up to your shoulder and fire a few bolts. Thats the only way you are really going to know.

If you are going to spend the money on a vortex or a pheonix, why dont you just move up to the exocet 200 instead of the pheonix?
