I went to a local archery shop yesterday and shot my Exomax thruogh a chrono to actually see what kind of speed I was getting. The fastest speed I could get was 314 feet per second. And that was with a 450 grain arrow weight. carbon arrow and 90 grain tip. I was kind of disapointed because of the advertised 350 feet per second. But 314 is very fast. Although my 7 year old Ten Point was averaging 308 feet per second. not bad for 7 year old technology. Does any body else have any speed tests to share.
Catcher,
You are shooting a 540 grain combo, the advertised 350 FPS is with a minimal weighted arrow and a FFF string so you will be shooting considerably less. Not sure if 314 is the right FPS or not it does seem a little low. I'm an accuracey guy versus a speed guy. As long as those 540 grain lincoln logs are hitting dead on, I wouldn't worry about it.

You will get 350 with a fff string, 350 gr. arrow and low brace height in a Max. Remember not all chronos register bolts the same or accurately, some better than others. A 340 gr bolt., 28 strand fff string, low brace gets me to 355.

My Vortex is advertised at 330 fps. I ahve never been able to get more than 320, with FF string and 350 gr arrows. I must admit that their stock 350s have 5" vanes that may account for some of the differece. But then, I load so 16 calibers and have yet to chron a factory round that does what it's advertised. I'm thinkin it's one of those "under ideal conditions it happened once" deal. I'll settele for accuracy any day over 15 fps but it does irk may that they stretch the truth so. BTW my Parker Terminator is rated at 325 but hit 315. Oh well.......

I measured with my chrono a Vortex: with a 400 grains arrow the speed was 322 fps....that means 330+ fps using a 350 grains arrow.
Same results with my Exocet200.
So check your string quality and also your chronograph precision or its position respect light...it can changes also 5%.
Best regards
Matthias
