Make my own tree stands.

Buy clothes from the local army surplus.

Make my own targets.

E-bay!!!
If your patient and know your prices you can find some real steals.
I have the basspro master catalog beside my computer and check pricing.
I get broadheads for half price. I have bought almost all my cloths from Ebay for at least half the retail price.
I stick with name brand new in package stuff. I only use paypal as that insures all my purchases.

I have to agree E-bay is the way to go. With the Canadian dollar on par with the U.S. there are some really good deals out there.

I consider hunting my vacation. I have'nt went on a vacation with the wife in 12 years. The wife goes to visit family in Vegas$$ a couple times a year. I'm just not big on sight seeing unless it's through a scope :D

I should mention we've never had children and both of us work. My friend (hunting partner) has 2 kids in College ( $23,000 per year  )so it's tuff on him. I pay for the hunting lease and supply him with strings, bolts, broadheads until the kids are out of college.

Hunting is not the cheapest pass time. Crossbows and deerhunting are fairly cheap compared to what I have in my Varmint rifles and equipment.

shop about 3 months before season starts or 5 days after it ends.. Every tree stand I go to buy is atleast 75-125 bucks and I get them on clearance for 25-50bucks since stores like to get rid of everything when season ends

ebay: once again, shop around april-may for killer deals since most dealers just want to get rid of the stuff

dont buy into all the pictures and labels that dress up the scents and calls.. more than likely, they didnt kill the deer that was on the call LOL.

Instead of buying wind direction powders, next time you see some cattails blooming get them. They work great and have no smell and put them in a film bottle and they are also completely silent in your pocket. A little goes a long way and its all natural and they're free.

Masterhunter, I was gonna post that. Got my ziplock bag of cattail fluff all ready to go.

I build my own targets.

For baiting, I pick up apples rather than buy bait. I try to keep buying deer ration to a minimum.

I also process all my own venison in the garage.

There's probably more. :)

My own rules:

1. Don't buy anything new except ammunition.
2. Don't get in a vehicle unless it's to go get a deer you've killed.
3. Don't buy anything new except ammunition.
4. Don't pay anybody anything to work up a deer you've killed.
5. Don't buy anything new except ammunition.
6. Don't pay for hunting land.
7. Don't buy anything new except ammunition.
8. Don't pay anyone to "guide" you when hunting.
9. Don't buy anything new except ammunition.
10. See Rule Number One.

Feel free to follow if you can and if you like! :D
