Cleaning and Sharpening Used Broadhead

Post by John Wade »

I harvested a deer the other day. I use the open on contact type blades I can't remember the name right now) and I want to know what you advise as to cleaning and preparing for use again. Last year I just washed it up but was wondering outside of the obvious if more attention should be paid.

I've had no problem with them however, I realize that the more "mechanical" the more likely. Then again, with correct shot placement and the sheer power of the excalibur even if the blades don't deploy correct me if I'm wrong the deer is going down.

Congrats on the deer!
I always take the old blades out, clean & inspect the broadhead carefully, then install NEW blades. But I quit using mechanicals after one failed to open on the last deer I (luckily) killed.

I use a diamond lapping hone to sharpen mine. Works great. Available in three grades if courseness.
