gamecam pics - which one would you shoot?

Post by wabi »

We finally got a gamecam out and got a few pics. It's in the corner of the small field where I have a feeder. It borders a small cornfield that was just harvested this week. There were 2 bucks & 13 does in the cornfield this evening, but way at the other end.
Here are a few recent pics.........

couple nice one's in there.

I bought a digital trail cam this year. Mostly Does and a small 8 so far and plenty of Racoons. Once they combine the corn I'll put it on the field's edge.

I'll try for the yote later in the winter when it's hungry and I have a better chance of calling it in.

Now a question - Which buck would you shoot if you had your choice???
Obviously the bigger 8-pint would come to mind, but if you were concerned about quality racks (management) would you pick another?
We've had a very dry spring & summer this year and it could have had an impact on antler development. There was a lot of genetically poor racks on this farm when I started hunting it 7 or 8 years ago. I've tried to take as many "culls" out as possible over the years, plus we've (the landowner & I) planted forage crops and put out salt & minerals for several years now. The dry weather this year made it impossible to give them good spring & summer forage crops, and they didn't really hit the mineral block too much.

The first 6-point looks young and might have potential in the future.
The big 8-point is mature, but far from old - he might grow bigger next year.
The wide 8-point with short tines looks like a youthful deer and might do much better next year.
The last buck is not old, but to me he looks like he might be the best one to "cull" out. Narrow rack, no real mass, and I'm guessing he won't improve much in future years.

I would shoot the one that I could get the best shot at. Any of them is a trophy.

If I were you, I wouldn't shoot any of them. I'd call my buddy, Ray and say" Hey man, I got a wide 8pt that needs to be taken. Come on up  . Seriously, if you can really manage the land that you hunt your blessed. Around here, if you let one go the next guy's gonna put him down  .
God Bless !!!!!!!!!

the second one is the only mature deer, I'd go with that one.

I only have one buck tag left and more than two months of season left. I would gladly put my last buck tag on the buck in the second or third picture.

Both are trophies to me.
