easton carbon bolts

Post by navaman »

does anyone know if the inserts we've been using on the GT Lazer ll will work on the new easton bolts. i've become a real believer in the heavy brass inserts . i still have over a dozen but if they won't work with the easton bolts i'll have to stay with gold tip.

p.s. i'm assuming if the brass inserts work, so will the excalibur flat nocks that weigh only 22 grains.

I just sent a email to easton asking them the id/od of their carbon bolts as I want to do the same thing. If I get a reply I will post it.

Yes, they do fit.

I just tried some today to show a customer, and the internal diameter is identical.

i went to both websites (gold tip and easton). the gold tip weight is 7.3 grains per inch and the easton weight is 10.5 grains per inch. thought i'd put that out there as many who build arrows are concerned about weight and FOC etc. :)

Keep in mind that the Easton Powerbolt at 10.5 gpi is not the same shaft as the Excalibur Firebolt that is produced by Easton.

That is the one that uses the same components as the GT Laser II.

I'll see if I can get a weight on the Firebolt for you later today.

Firebolt weight is 9.4 gpi.

I also checked a Laser II, and despite what the Gold Tip website says, it came in at 8.5 gpi. I think they may have done a typo - their regular arrow Series 22 is 7.3 gpi - it's the same size as the Laser II but a lighter density shaft.

So:

Easton Powerbolt, 10.5 gpi
Easton/Excalibur Firebolt 9.4 gpi
Gold Tip Laser II 8.5 gpi

And the inserts that fit the Laser II and the Firebolt do NOT fit the Powerbolt.

Last year gold tip changed their bolts, Old was .343 and the new one is .336 diameter, They sent me 6 to replace the bad ones I got when I got my exocet. I wondered why they shot different ans I asked gt. So if you have some trouble with shooting check the diameter.

I read on this forum that one of the ways to remove inserts is to screw in a field point clamp the point with small vicegrips and heat the point - heat will transfer to the insert and loosen the glue , i have never tryed it myself but it sounds like it will work .

So are the new Easton firebolts thicker and stronger ? & are they heavier if so by how much more than the GT's , i just bought mt wife a 6 pack of fire bolts for her Vixen , they do look like a nice arrow but i dont know much about them.
